Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft has been named a “Superintendent to Watch” by the National School Public Relations Association. The national honor recognizes 30 innovative school leaders. Since joining Boerne ISD in 2024, Craft has helped the district continue to earn six straight A-ratings from the state and boosted college and career readiness to 95 percent. 

 

The Kendall County Commissioner's Court voted on Monday to extend the burn ban for 90 days. The agreement signed by the commissioners prohibits all outdoor burning other than for recreational or ceremonial purposes. The ban carries fines up to 500 dollars, will remain in effect through April 13 unless conditions improve.

Also on Monday, the Boerne Planning and Zoning commission approved the final Buc-ee's plat. They focused on traffic-impact analysis and the 9-acre slice of property being turned over to the city. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the design, which now goes to City Council to accept, deny or delay.  

 

With devastating floods still fresh in their minds, Kendall County officials have been awarded a one-million-dollar state grant to install outdoor warning sirens. The funding will support new alert systems along the Guadalupe River, following historic flooding that claimed 138 lives. County leaders say coordination with neighboring counties is already underway.

 

Progress continues across Northside Community Park as construction is underway. Stormwater detention ponds are fully excavated and graded, walking trails are prepped with base material, and both restroom facility pad sites are ready. Low Impact Development feature locations have been excavated, and primary electrical trenching is now underway. The City of Boerne broke ground in September, so the project should only take 9 to 15 more months before it’s available to the public.

Well after another season one game short for the Greyhounds, something good came out of it. In fact, “good” might be an understatement. Grant Sweeney, the QB, is the San Antonio Gunslingers Player of the Year. And well-deserved for the guy who in all-purpose yards surpassed 4000. A combination of fan nominations and Texas Sports Productions staff made it happen, and Sweeney will be featured in a package to be seen on TSP broadcasts. Baron Wiley caught up with Sweeney who had some kind words for the people around him.

Your 2025 San Antonio Gunslingers Player of the Year- Grant Sweeney. 

And we also got word that he’ll be participating in the Dream Football Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington very soon.

Greyhound boys soccer defeat Wagner at home in the first game of district play. The final score was 7-2.

And checking in with former Greyhound QB Hank Hendrix- he will be staying in Arkansas to play as a QB for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. He announced it yesterday on X… and he just 6 days ago received an offer from South Carolina! But his father and former Greyhound head coach, Che, will now get to be closer to his talented son. Hank earned 1st team all conference honors for his season with Fayetteville High School in Arkansas.

It’s Tuesday January 13th.

 

And it was on this date in 1968 that Johnny Cash entered the prison system. And it’s not because he shot a man in Reno - which he didn’t…He brought his band to play for the inmates at California’s Folsom Prison.  When that recording was released, it launched him back into the charts and re-defined his career.

 

You know the expression there is money on the table…. Each year the City of Boerne collects revenue from a tax collected on guest rooms at our local hotels and inns called the Hotel Occupancy Tax or HOT for short and uses the money to reinvest in programs that attract overnight guests.   So if you have a dream to host your own car show, or promotion of the arts, anything that attracts tourists to Boerne as Larry Woods says put heads in beds back in those hotels, now is the time to apply.  The deadline to apply is March 19th and the big Shark Tank style pitch happens in City Hall on April 9th.  All the details on the City of Boerne website but we have a direct link in our news blog at boerneradio.com.

The Boerne Chamber is hosting two ribbon cuttings on Thursday to support local businesses. The first will be at 11:30 for Vacay Vibes Travel by Shonda, that will happen in the Chamber, and the second will be at 1:30 for Edquisitive Montessori of Fair Oaks which is a teaching preschool and day care -  they are located on I-10 just past the Lamborghini showroom.

 

Work has begun on the Old No. 9 trail to replace utility poles from Blanco to Esser Road. Crews will be working from 8am to 3 until next Friday, and large utility trucks will be operating along the trail. At times they may need to cross the No. 9 to complete their work safely, so pedestrians are asked to use caution and remain alert while crews are at work. 

 

Happy Birthday to Missy Ivankovich - she’s the owner of Singing Water Vineyards, Trip Matthews he’s the head brewer at Tusculum Brewing Company on Main Street, also to Gerson Roque, Destiny Rodriguez and Jered Cid…if you see them out and about wish them a happy birthday!
