Boerne Radio Townhall - Ricky Gleason for KC Judge 

It’s Friday January 30th. 

 

In music history, a couple things happened on this date…The Beatles gave their last public performance in 1969 with that rooftop concert on their Apple headquarters in London.  And just 4 years later in 1973, the glitter-rock band KISS gave their first public performance in Queens New York with less than 10 people attending at the Popcorn Pub.  Happy 53rd Anniversary Paul, Gene, Ace, and Peter. 

 

And a quick happy birthday to Boerne Radio listener friends Darius Trainer, Gloria Williams, and Della Andretti.  Tomorrow Saturday It’s Melissa Curd, Greta Rodkey, and Ron Cisneros who cohosts Ceasefire here on Boerne Radio every Saturday at 10:30.

 

A vehicle crashed into the corner of the Hill Country Animal League thrift store yesterday afternoon right next to the Sonic. No injuries were reported, and the thrift store is still able to operate with an old school outdoor garage sale... and sell items from the back of the store and continue to accept donations outside.  Needless to say, they’ll need support more than ever. Their hours are 9-5…what a way to make a living.

 

In a story in the Boerne Life, A Boerne volunteer carried a flood-recovered suitcase halfway around the world to return it.  Teri Hauger, with the group Found on the Guadalupe River, hand-delivered the suitcase to it’s owner, a former camp counselor from Heart of the HIlls - in New Zealand after it was swept away in the July Fourth floods. Hauger was already traveling overseas and offered to bring it herself. Organizers say it’s a powerful example of how far this volunteer effort goes to reunite people with what matters most.

And due to continuous cold weather, the Cibolo Center for Conservation’s farmers market is canceled as the next wave of cold air and wind blows in.  The severe weather advisory starts at 3am where the wind chill will feel like it’s in the teens.

Headlines: district basketball continues tonight / Geneva swim team state-bound / UIL realignment and reclassification to happen Monday

Boerne Radio Sports!

It’s Friday and we are coming to the end in district play. A few games separate teams in the state from the playoffs, and Boerne teams make the final push. The Greyhounds at 6:30 will face Alamo Heights with the girls on the road. For the Chargers, their opponent will be Pieper. The boys will be on the ones on the road this time. 

Geneva swim has been pretty dominant all season, but as of yesterday, every swimmer on the team qualified for state at the regional tournament. This included 3 first-place finishes. Info on the state meet will be out soon.

And for the UIL, realignment will happen on Monday. That’s right- some schools will keep their current classifications, and some will shift, causing athletics districts to change. We will see how schools line up. Boerne isn't expected to change the classifications of their two high schools.
