Veronica Brown and Michael Ethridge share the latest updates on Das Festival 2.0 in Kendall County, happening Father's Day weekend from June 13th to 15th at Main Plaza in Boerne.

Fun activities include dachshund races, egg tosses, and a beerstein holding contest. There are VIP options, volunteer opportunities, and generous community contributions, ensuring a fantastic experience for all attendees.  Live music from headliners includes Pasty Torres, Ruben V, and Two Tons of Steel, as well as the parade featuring Grand Marshal Bill Goldberg.

Headlines:Born on this date in 1921- John Herschel Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962/ release statement for advisory to avoid being near waterways in Kerr County/RIbbon cutting for Hill Country Family services next Thursday for 40th anniversary/Boerne Village Band is declared as city of Boerne’s Heritage and cultural performance band/Staycation contest !!

It’s Friday July 18th. 

And born on this date in 1921 was John Herschel Glenn who was the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962.  He was one of the original 1959 Mercury Seven test pilots as depicted in the movie The Right Stuff, and was a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea with six Distinguished Flying Crosses and 18 clusters to the Air Medal.  In 1998 John Glenn flew into space again at the age of 77.

The Upper Guadalupe River Authority released an advisory to the public to avoid being near or in waterways in Kerr County due to debris, fast-moving currents, and poor water quality.  Emergency operations are ongoing so no boating or swimming at this time.  

Happy 40th Anniversary to Hill Country Family Services!  Next Thursday morning from 8:45 to 10, the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce will conduct a special ribbon cutting with their morning mingle networking event, with coffee and tacos provided by Chef Al.  Right now HIll Country Family Services is not only providing counceling support for flood victim families, and first responders, but also first responders wives.  If this is something you need, learn more at HCFSTX.org. 

In celebration of Boerne’s rich cultural heritage, Mayor Frank Richie has declared the Boerne Village Band as The City of Boerne’s Heritage and Cultural Performance Band! The Village band has been an instrumental part of our city for the last 164 years, and this designation ensures that they will keep our traditions alive and share them with generations to come.

Who’s ready for next baseball season? Yeah Greyhound senior Jackson Grimes certainly is… he was taking part in a huge event called the AABC Don Mattingly World Series with his summer team… hear these stats… 6 for12 at the plate with 5 RBIs, and pitching-wise: 9 K’s in 4.2 innings and his fastest was 87mph. The guy knows how to throw some heat.

The Spurs Summer League team couldn’t bring the heat, in fact they felt it… undefeated up to a point and the Charlotte Hornets, also a young team with promising futures, was also undefeated. The Hornets got the better of it, 106-81 last night. This was without newly-drafted #2 overall pick Dylan Harper in the Spurs lineup. But overall, I would say, Spurs fans that this team deserves an A+ for summer league and definitely has a bright future ahead of them. Just a little over two months for the start of the regular season.

Headlines: Tree fell into powerline on Frey Street/ City of Comfort utilized two outdoor flood sirens/ Fog Seal Street maintenance today and tmrw on Wembley Road/Staycation contest!!

It’s Thursday July 17th. 

 And it was on this date in 1955 that Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California-and covering the live broadcast on television was Ronald Reagan.

 A tree fell into a powerline on Frey Street on Tuesday, requiring Boerne Utilities to show up like pit pros, temporarily turn off the power to safely remove it. Crews had the tree removed and the power restored in just 30 minutes. 

 For the first time ever, the City of Comfort utilized two outdoor flood sirens to warn people of incoming flash floods, ultimately saving numerous lives. The New York Post reported that everyone in the community, which is just over 2200 people, were able to evacuate from near the Guadalupe on that fateful morning. The sirens were upgraded just last year when Assistant Fire Chief Daniel Morales and other residents came together to raise money for the outdoor flood sirens.

 The City of Fair Oaks will be conducting their Fog Seal Street maintenance today and tomorrow on Wembley Road. Today they will be working on the even-numbered addresses, and tomorrow will be the odd numbered addresses. To minimize disruption, please avoid parking in the project area and don’t drive on freshly treated surfaces until fully cured, and if needed, park on the opposite shoulder or nearby side street shoulders.
