It’s Monday February 9th. 

It was 62 years ago today…on this date in 1964 - 73 million Americans were glued to their TVs to see this… The Beatles make their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.  

Also happy Birthday to Mr. Gary Dean Callaway. 

 

Early Sunday morning at 12:45 according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in with the report of several males fighting with shots fired in the parking lot of the Executive Inn Motel on 87 in Comfort.

As soon as this Deputy arrived, he was fired upon by a subject in the parking lot. The Deputy was able to return fire striking the lone gunman.

 Once the scene was secure, Kendall County EMS arrived to treat the wounded suspect who was then transported by helicopter to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition. Here’s Kendall County Sheriff Al Auxier.

The Sheriff said our Deputy was not injured, and special thanks to Deputies from Kerr County, DPS Troopers, and the Kendall County EMS first responder teams.  God bless and protect all our officers and deputies.

 

Kendall County is applying for continued participation in the Peace Officer Mental Health Program, which offers counseling and mental health services for law enforcement. At last week’s Commissioner's Court meeting, officials began to take steps to renew the services for Fiscal Year 2027. Sheriff Al Auxlier mentioned the tragic floods last year as a point of importance in prioritizing healthy coping mechanisms and stability. He also said the program is conducted anonymously and outside the department, through agencies such as Hill Country Family Services. Although no one is forced to participate, it is important that first responders know the resources are there to help if they need. 

 

The County has purchased a three-quarter mile stretch of the Guadalupe River, which is destined to become the area’s first “Blue Trail” and a favored spot for water recreation. What’s a blue trail? It’s a designated waterway route for the public to use with canoes and kayaks-this trail will have two launch points that allow access to a two mile float downstream to the Kreutzburg Canyon Natural Area. The property used to house the Guadalupe River Resort, but most of the buildings and infrastructure will be destroyed in the renovation. Officials hope for a summer 2027 opening if approved in the upcoming budget season. 

 

The Commissioner's Court has authorized the Sheriff's Office to purchase and train a new drug dog. The new deputy will undergo a 3 week training course come spring.  The new K9’s arrival will give the county two patrol dogs in addition to its facilities dog and mental health dog.

Headlines: BISD at SWISD regional meet results / Seahawks win Super Bowl, welcomes baseball/softball season!

The regional swim and dive meet at SWISD took place this past Friday and Saturday… both Greyhounds and Chargers were there as they had previously qualified. Both groups placed really well, including Charger girls finishing in first place with 311 points. Greyhound girls finished 12th with 103 points. Champion boys finished in 2nd behind Austin Lasa, as Champion collected 345 points. Boerne boys also ranked 12th, accumulating 33 points. 

And if you by chance are a Seattle Seahawks fan, your team defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl 60. Now, every level of football is out, meaning BASEBALL is in! In fact, for the Majors, pitchers and catchers for some teams report as early as tomorrow. It’s time to transition, folks. High school will also get under way tomorrow with softball beginning, before baseball on the 17th. Boerne softball will have their first game against Wagner on the road at 7 tomorrow, and Charger softball will hit the road to take on Vets Memorial.

It’s Friday February 6th. 

 

And born on this date in 1911 - he was an actor, radio sports announcer, union leader, President of the Screen Actors Guild, a Governor, and the 40th President of the United States…President Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Rick Astley is 60, Axl Rose turns 64, and also born on this date in 1945 was Bob Marley.

 

The Hunt Preservation Society is doing incredible work to restore West Kerr County after the devastating floods in July. After receiving donations from all over the state, including a $15,785.99 cent check from the Hunt Volunteer Fire Department, the organization has designated funds towards the restoration of 39 homes, with 4 already completed. They are adding another 30 to their list after this round and have 190 households being handled by case managers.  

 

And some more good news from Kerrville thanks to a story from KSAT 12, a woman was recently reunited with the cat she lost in the midst of the flooding. The Kerrville Animal Shelter found the animal named Ella with a red harness and started searching for posts with matching information. Lesa Baird had posted a missing flier in August and was reunited all these months later.

Fair Oaks Ranch has been named the 5th safest city in Texas and #1 in the San Antonio area by SafeWise! This ranking is based on compiled information from the 2024 Uniform Crime Reporting data, which analyzes both violent and property crime of similarly sized cities. The City attributes much of this success to the active partnership between law enforcement and the community.

Last night in a sold-out Bevy Hotel ballroom, the Kendall County Republican Party hosted a patriotic dinner that started with a prayer led by Senator Donna Campell, The Pledge of Allegiance led by State Rep Ellen Troxclair, and candidates and incumbents for about every race on the Kendall County Ballot.  The Mic Drop moment happed after Congressman Wesley Hunt from Houston spoke who’s running for the Senate.
