Let’s start with volleyball- I’ll spoil it for you now, both Boerne ISD teams are advancing. Boerne beat Seguin 3-1, and Champion defeated MacArthur in a sweep. We know Champion will play Medina Valley for the area title next, and Boerne High awaits the winner of Southside and Fox Tech… that game will take place today. Times and dates for the area round are to be announced. 

Penultimate week of high school football for UIL- tonight, our featured game here on Boerne Radio as the Greyhounds head to New Braunfels. With a Boerne win tonight, they clinched the district title. They also are still undefeated so why not run the table for the whole season? Fired up Friday begins at 5 and pregame at 6:30 - tell a friend - it’s here on 103.9FM and the FREE Boerne Radio app. 

Champion off the loss to Smithson Valley comes home for their homecoming game against Austin McCallum. Kickoff is at 7… and another team that will be in the playoffs on one of the best seasons in school history. Well either re-air or join this game in progress after the Greyhound game. 

Geneva is playing their final regular season game in Houston against St. Francis Episcopal. Kickoff will be at 7.  Geneva is 8-1 in their first season under head coach Adam Foren. They’re in the playoffs as well, even with a loss in this final game. 

Comfort stays home and faces YMLA in their penultimate game of the season. Kickoff is at 7 just up the road. 

Bandera football faces Navarrro at home at 7. It’s a big game as they are tied for 2nd place in district 15 of 4A Region 2. A win tonight would give them a 3-game win streak and almost a guaranteed playoff berth.

A gas station in Ohio recently settled out of court for their cartoon moose “facing right with wide eyes and a smile” and Buc-ee’s argued it would likely cause confusion among customers.  The Boerne Star reports Pinchy’s Lobster & Rawbar says it has zero concern hearing from Buc-ee’s. Representatives from The Dodging Duck and 28 Songs declined to comment.

 

The 2026 State of the City Luncheon took place yesterday afternoon at Cana Ballroom. Mayor Frank Richie, City Manager Ben Thatcher and City Councilman Ty Wolosin shared updates on the City of Boerne and the major plans for the upcoming year. They also shared their priorities, from keeping things local to responsible budgeting. Attendees enjoyed delicious food provided by the Boerne ISD Culinary Program with the help of Smoke in the Hills BBQ. If you missed the luncheon but want to hear the details of what was discussed, the City of Boerne will be sharing a full livestream soon on their page.

Boerne history comes to life tomorrow with the annual Gone But Not Forgotten Cemetery Tour at the Boerne Cemetery. Costumed interpreters will portray some of Boerne’s early pioneers, including returning actor Jay Pennington as Ferdinand Harz — a German immigrant who came to Texas in the 1850s, built a farm, store, campground and dance hall, and even helped establish the Boerne Cemetery.  The Harz home is still there on Harz Street off of Blanco Road across from the new Crestmont Christian School and old City Hall.  The free, family-friendly tours run from 10 until noon, with guided tours at 10:15, 10:45 and 11:15.

Hill Country Family Services was thrilled to be the beneficiaries of Boerne ISD’s Thriller event this past week. In total, the canned food drive collected 1748 pounds of food, which will go directly to hill country families.

 

Curington Elementary hosts its first-ever Trunk or Treat from 5 until 7, with candy, games, a silent auction, costume contests and food. CommuniCare Boerne Clinic also has a Star Wars-themed Tricks and Treats event from 5 until 7, while Town and Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center hosts its own free Trunk-or-Treat from 5 until 6:30.

 

More rain on the way…which could make Friday night football interesting.  If The undefeated Greyhounds win in New Braunfels, it would give Boerne it’s 6th distinct football championship in the last 7 seasons.  We’ll carry that game here on Boerne Radio, meanwhile a Charger victory at home would clinch a playoff spot, and give Champion a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

 

Well the reason is still officially unknown but Centinela Mexican Restaurant on Bandera Road has a “Closed until further notice” sign back in the window.   They closed in July for a month - reopened in August, and here we are again.  On the Boerne Life Facebook page fans posted comments like “why?” , someone said “they sold it” and another said “never heard of it” - which is why everyone in Boerne should advertise on the Boerne Life and Boerne Radio…just saying. 

 

The Boerne Star updated us on the ongoing issues the Kendall County Fair Association is facing, including divisions on leadership positions, fallout over the controversy with the Queen’s court, and concerns over their tax-exempt status. As of late the biggest issue is figuring out who is in charge-Kim Flessner serves as interim President after former President Wes Fleming stepped down, but several directors have challenged the role.

There’s some big news for Champion Cross Country. Both the boys and girls teams have qualified for the Class 5A State Meet. Champion’s Shawn Edwards won the individual regional championship, finishing in 16 minutes, 31 seconds. The Charger boys finished second as a team, while the girls took third. The state meet is set for Saturday, November 7th in Round Rock.
