Seven years after Kendall County was organized, the first county courthouse was completed in 1870. Local Surveyor John James donated the land.  The courthouse was a small one-story structure that housed the first county jail on the northeast corner. The structure we see today includes the addition of a second story to the original courthouse, which operated for 128 years. This Kendall County building is the second oldest Texas courthouse in continuous use.

On a week of signings… we have one Charger baseball player making a commitment- Samuel Miller has committed to Ranger college to continue swinging for the fences and being a student. Congrats to Samuel!

We have a signing today in Boerne as Jace Hulett from Geneva Golf will score a birdie making it official to go to Seton Hall to continue playing and academic careers. Congrats to Jace!

Basketball season underway: last night Champion boys capped off a nice win over Warren, 60-49. Geneva boys remain undefeated after beating Stacey, 66-46. 

Tomorrow night here on Boerne Radio…. The newest 5A competitors the Greyhounds are already exceeding expectations… and it’s round 1 of the playoffs… the Greyhounds will look to make history by playing Corpus Christi Carroll. Kickoff is at 7 with our pregame show at 6:30 tomorrow night. 

Tonight the Spurs will host the Washington Wizards at the Frost Bank Center. Tipoff is at 7.

Boerne Radio - Sports - November 13, 2024

It’s Wednesday November 13th. 

In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to move from her seat at the front of a bus in protest of segregation. This was the beginning of the Montgomery bus boycott, which lasted 13 months.  Almost a year later, on this date in 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregation on interstate buses is unconstitutional. 

In the heartbreaking murder case of Suzanne Simpson, the affidavit is now in the public record and the details involving Brad Simpson’s presence in Kendall County are available.  The arrest warrant affidavit states that around 7:53 a.m. on Oct. 7, Brad Simpson dropped off his child at school and the bed of his truck contained at least two white trash bags and a large ice chest.

At around 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 7, Brad Simpson went to the Whataburger in Boerne, and the bed of his truck contained an additional trash bag, a large heavy-duty trash can, and a large, bulky item wrapped and secured in a blue tarp.Brad Simpson then went into the Home Depot on 46 at around 9:53 a.m., where video surveillance and a receipt showed he purchased two bags of cement, a construction bucket with a lid, a box of 32-ounce heavy-duty trash bags, one bottle of Clorox disinfectant spray and insect repellent.

According to KSAT.com, while in the parking lot of the Home Depot, he asked a man about the directions to the nearest dump in Boerne. After leaving the store, Brad Simpson intentionally placed his phone in “lock down” mode after he spoke with the man in the parking lot.

Over the next hour or so, Brad Simpson’s truck was seen leaving the waste site in Boerne. He then headed to a gas station in Boerne and bought two one-gallon jugs of water.  Surveillance footage showed the trash bags were no longer in the bed of the truck, but he still had the blue tarp, firewood rack and trash can at 11:15 a.m. He had also changed his shoes from sandals to cowboy boots. After he left the gas station, he headed westbound from Boerne on 46 to Bandera County.

At around 1:41 p.m., a license plate reader captured Brad Simpson’s truck heading back to Kendall County. At that time, the blue tarp was no longer visible in the bed of his truck, and the firewood rack had been repositioned.

Brad Simpson remains behind bars on bonds totaling $5 million and a federal detainer.

The Roeder memorial park was built to honor two Boerne-area men who died in service. In 1945, C.T. and Eva Roberts deeded the four lots in the Cibolo Park Addition to the City of Boerne. Their twin sons Aaron and Allen were killed in World War II combat. They graduated from Boerne High School in 1944 and joined the Navy, where they were assigned to the USS Bismarck Sea. On the evening of Feb. 21, 1945, the Bismarck Sea had just recovered her aircraft from a strike when a swarm of Japanese planes appeared, with one crashing into the battleship. Allen went back to look for Aaron before abandoning the ship. They perished as the USS Bismarck Sea sank to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean in less than 90 minutes.
