Geneva Golf and their state appearance was a success- just 4 shots separated the girls from the top 3, but every player set a new personal record. And individually, Anistyn Dennis scored a 165 over two days… which is very impressive! Good job all around. 

And starting Friday, there will be 5 runners for Geneva track and field competing at the TAPPS state meet. The meet will run through Saturday.

Game 1 of Champion vs Southwest will begin tomorrow at 6:45 here on Boerne Radio with the pregame show. The area championship is on the line. Can Champion head back to the regional playoffs? We shall see. 

Game 2 of the Spurs-Timberwolves series is tonight at 8:30 from the Frost Bank Center. Carter Bryant for San Antonio is listed as questionable.

It’s Thursday, May 7th

 

It was on this day in 1945 that Germany signed an unconditional surrender at Allied headquarters in France, ending its role in World War II.  It was also on this day in 1975 when President Gerald Ford formally declared an end to the “Vietnam era.”  And if you don’t want to start a new war...don’t forget this Sunday is Mother’s day.  And as it’s the first Thursday in May it’s the National Day of Prayer…

 

Boerne ISD has purchased 31 acres off North Main Street as part of its long-term growth strategy.  We’re talking about the big patch of land across from Albany Engineered Composites between Sisterdale Road, and Commerce.  District leaders say the land could support a future middle school and expanded career and technical education facilities. Officials say the purchase aligns with Bond 2022 goals and will help the district plan for future enrollment while maximizing current campuses and delaying the need for a third high school. 

 

Boerne Middle School South Texas History Teacher Tim Richardson was recently asked to speak to the Sons of the Republic of Texas about the Alamo and the work being done in Texas History Classrooms. On top of that, the organization hosts a statewide letter writing competition, and this year the campus has two student winners out of 1500 entries. One student, Siri Abhijit, placed in the Top 20 in the state, and another, Caia Flatau, earned an outstanding 4th-place finish.  Because of them, Boerne Middle School South was awarded $600  to enhance Texas History instruction.

 

The Patrick Heath Public Library is welcoming artist Issac Grigar this May for the first annual No Blank Canvas artist exhibition. This program is a community art experience that will feature artists in residence yearly to spotlight under-told stories in the Hill Country. Isaac’s exhibition is titled “Their Absence in Our Presence”, which includes six multi-media works of art created in the last year, exploring the people, landscape, and histories that make the Texas Hill Country home for us all. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit tomorrow starting at 6. 

 

Sheriff Al Auxier swore in 2 new Deputies this week - Welcome to the force Deputy Lonescu and Deputy Diamond! Welcome to Kendall County and thank you for serving the community.

Still no leads on the theft and vandalism of Road and Bridge equipment that happened in Center Point along Elm Pass Road.…the equipment was left there for just one night, and thieves stole batteries, parts, and a critical control panel valued at $6000 from the county’s only chip spreader. Officials say the specialized part could take months to replace, delaying chip seal work on several roads. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. 

In Fair Oaks construction is scheduled to resume this week on the new 500,000-gallon ground storage tank at Water Plant 5. Residents nearby might see increased traffic, equipment deliveries, crane operations and just general construction noise. Tank assembly is expected to continue through early July, followed by piping, electrical, and instrumentation work, and final disinfection before the tank is placed into service in the Fall.  

Tomorrow is the National Day of Prayer and in Boerne, the day will start with the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Las Guitarras on Main Street, with the blowing of the Shofar, worship led by Cross Mountain Church, a message from Mayor Frank Ritchie, and prayers from local pastors.  Then at 11:45 in Main Plaza, First Baptist Church will lead in praise and worship, Senator Donna Campbell will read the Governor's Proclamation, Commissioner Andra Wisian will pray for the county, Sheriff Al Auxier will pray for First Responders, with more local leaders and teachers praying for our churches, non-profits, our kids, and our businesses.
