San Antonio Vets Memorial was the opponent of the Boerne Greyhound basketball teams last night- boys open district at home, and the girls were on the road. Boerne boys win 46-40 in a close one, and the girls win as well, 65-17. 

Brogan Dempsey, wide receiver of the Champion Chargers, announced on X yesterday that he got an offer from Mary Hardin-Baylor to continue his football career. He is uncommitted still with 5 offers, and will also be representing Team Blue in the San Antonio All-Star Game on January 10. 

The Spurs will be in Los Angeles tonight taking on the Lakers. It’s Round 1 of the NBA Cup. Still a regular season game, but since the Spurs won group play, they now play a knockout game to advance in an 8-team tournament. The next step is the semifinals if they win and they play Saturday in Las Vegas. Tip off tonight is at 9pm.

It’s Friday March 13th.

 

And if today is your birthday, you share it with María del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza but you know her better at Charo - she is 85 and looks exactly the same. Adam Clayton - the bass player from U2 is 66, and Donald Duck debuted on this date in 1934.  And I’ll tell you who’s celebrating today right here in Boerne - Happy Birthday to Laura Avery a great friend to Boerne Radio as the event director out at the Von Erich Ranch and DeVino Cellars, and also to Sean Hatley over at Wells Fargo.

 

Congratulations to Officer Micheal De Hoyos of the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department for being named their department's 2025 Officer of the Year. Over the past year he has also received the Life Saving Award, and is credited with a calm demeanor, strong work ethic, and willingness to step up when it matters most.  Thank you for your service Officer De Hoyos.

 

The Kendall County Office of Emergency Management wants to remind you that, while we had some lovely rain recently, the burn ban is still on. For the time being, there will be no outdoor burning of any kind allowed, unless given a permit by the city. 

 

The Kendall County Animal Shelter has partnered with our local jail to give some of their dogs a second chance at finding a forever home. Through this program, they send one dog at a time to the jail to be cared for and worked with by the staff, with the goal of helping the dogs acclimate to people. Right now they don’t have a name for the program, so if you have a suggestion, you can throw your name idea on their most recent Facebook post-they will pick a winner on St. Patrick’s Day next Tuesday.  Some names already submitted are Leash on Life, Unlock Love, and Pawshank Redemption.

On Monday, the eastbound lane of Bandera Road will shift to the inside lane from the I-10 access road entrance between Chase Bank and Norris Lane. During this time, the Street Department will assist while the Electric Department upgrades a utility pole and installs an anchor as part of a Spectrum project. It is only expected to take place between 9 and 1:30, and there should only be minor delays.

The 5A District 26 MVP for boys basketball was announced and the honor goes to Gavin Peck of Champion. Even though the season ended prematurely for the Chargers, this young man was a leader averaging 20 PPG, 4 ASTS, and a 44.4% 3-point shooter. Congrats to Gavin Peck!

Texas HS Football on social media had a fan vote and Grant Sweeney was voted to the 5A All-Texas Team as one of the quarterbacks. He was the only player from the Boerne area to make the team. 

And Champion baseball has had a great week- they shutout Reagan 3-0 and pick up a non district win. However, Ethan Coleman and Owen Kuhl combined for a no-hitter. Coleman was also named Pitcher of the Week by DiamondPro.com, having 9 strikeouts this week in the shutout.

It’s Thursday March 12th. 

 

And it’s National Girl Scout Day. Girl Scouting in the United States of America began on this day in 1912. It started in Savannah, Georgia with 18 girls led by Juliett Gordon Low.  Their slogan remains the same….”Do a Good Turn Daily.”

 

Last night the Boerne Civic Roundtable hosted a Boerne ISD School board debate for Place 7 in the upcoming election. Candidates Incumbent Rich Sena and Michael Ethridge spoke directly to voters in the Patrick Heath Public Libraries about the future of Boerne ISD and how they wanted to be a part of it. Ethridge spoke about debt management, increasing pay for teachers, and his commitment to helping students thrive in the real world. Rich Sena, the incumbent, spoke of his extensive experience in many fields, his passion for education, prioritizing students and setting responsible budgets.  Election Day is May 2nd.

 

And besides it being National Girl Scout Day, it’s also Groundwater Awareness Week, and no one is more aware of this than our friends at Cow Creek Groundwater Conservation District where the message is do everything you can to conserve water. Micah Voulgaris is the General Manager of Cow Creek and he says their 6000 gallon rain water capture tank is full after the rain earlier this week.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to identify persons of interest involved in a burglary in early February. The crime took place off of Shooting Club Road on the 7th and 8th, and involved middle aged men driving a silver pickup. If you have any information about the robbery or the suspects, contact Officer Ramirez 1157 at the Sheriff’s office. 

 

The City of Fairs Oaks Municipal Court earned a Municipal Traffic Safety Initiative Award from the Texas Municipal Courts Association. The award recognizes the Court’s Youth Court Day Event held in November 2025 in partnership with Van Raub Elementary School-kiddos learned about the court system, traffic safety, and civic responsibility. The Court will receive formal recognition at the MTSI Conference in April.
