Big win for Geneva baseball last night as the Eagles look to add to their win column. Final was 12-2 over New Braunfels Christian. 

Geneva tennis also clinched district championships in both boys and girls divisions. 

Individually as well, some players have earned their way to state. Mary Simpson and Siena Svendsen are girls doubles champions, Rebekah Burkhart and Audrey Kate Garcia are runner ups but state qualifiers, Grant Dillinger and Walker West are doubles champions and qualified for state, Teagan Fikes and Alex Malouf are the runner ups but are headed to state as well, Audrey Lapacka and Ray Reynolds both placed 4th respectively and are both headed to the state tournament. 

Can you believe we’re in the month of April already? I can’t either, and it’s no April Fool’s joke. What’s also not a joke is the Spurs have 7 games left in the regular season. They’re trying to chase that number 1 seed. They get another shot tonight at 9 when they take on Golden State.

It’s Wednesday April 1st. 

 

And it’s National Volunteer Month encouraging you to thank a volunteer or be a volunteer as part of President George H. W. Bush’s 1000 Points of Light campaign in 1991.

It’s also National Autism Awareness Month, National Parkinson’s Disease Month, and April Fool’s Day.

It’s also National Child Abuse Awareness Month, and the City is getting together for a special Breakfast on April 15th at St. Helena’s Episcopal Church.  They are calling it the North Region’s Blue Breakfast as Boerne Police Chief Perez, Sheriff Al Auxier, and Judge Katherine McDaniel are some of the leaders speaking and you are invited to this free Blue Breakfast.  You must RSVP by today when you email Hollye Pickett at Hpickett@sjrctexas.org.   And if you need that address again, it’s in the news blog at boerneradio.com.

 

The Texas Division of Emergency Management will conduct a statewide test of public warning systems tomorrow sometime between 10 am and 12:30 pm. This drill is designed to evaluate the effectiveness and reliability of emergency alerting systems used to notify the public during disasters and emergencies. This is only a test, so you will not need to do anything in response. 

 

And an update on the shooting in Comal County on Monday. The teacher that was injured in the shooting has not been identified, but the Comal Sheriff has confirmed that she is stable. It has been confirmed the still unnamed shooter brought a .357 revolver from home, and had been failing multiple classes before the event.  It has also been confirmed that there was no School Resource Officer on Campus at the time of the shooting, with no information on why this was the case. 

 

Phase 1 of the Adler Road Improvement project is well underway, leading to significant changes for drivers and pedestrians. Construction crews will be shifting traffic to completely new sections of roadway and sidewalk at Currey Creek beginning today, allowing crews to begin working on the north side of the road. Before this change occurred, crews encountered an unforeseen obstacle- an old water well. The City worked with the Cow Creek Groundwater Conservation District to ensure all regulatory requirements were met before capping the well. Construction around Currey Creek is expected to wrap up by early summer.

It’s Tuesday March 31st. 

 

And born on this date in 1955 is ACDC co-founder guitarist Angus Young making him 71 years young.   I thought he was older.  And on lead mom of the Partridge Family Shriley Jones is 92 - and to another Jones in Boerne, happy birthday Dyna Jones.

And while we celebrate local birthdays, another national day started right here in Boerne…this Saturday is National Handmade Day created, and celebrated everyday by Handmade on Main owner Amy Bierstedt.   She suggested the idea to the From Scratch Farm website back in 2017, it became official in 2018 and national companies like Jo-Ann Fabrics have embraced it every first Saturday in April since.   So we at Boerne Radio say make this Saturday the best day ever for Handmade on Main…and way to go Amy! 

 

Some upsetting news coming out of Comal County-yesterday morning there was an active shooter situation at the Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde. By 10:08 the threat had been neutralized, and most students were reunited with their parents after being transported to Bulverde Middle School. The shooter was a 15 year old male who fired at a female teacher-she remains hospitalized in San Antonio with no current update on her condition, and the student died at the scene. The school is closed today, and the investigation is ongoing. 

 

The City of Boerne is seeking your input on a draft of its Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. The plan provides a data-driven outline to reduce roadway fatalities and serious injuries while improving safety for all users. Currently 73% of the crashes that occur in Boerne occur on 15% of the roadways, including South Main, West Bandera and around Main Plaza.   The link to that plan is in the news blog at BoerneRadio.com.

Hill Country Family Services has a new wishlist for the month of April,  highlighting the current greatest needs for the corner cupboard. This month they are asking for donations of canned salmon, dog food, kleenex boxes, rice, ranch style beans and small cans of coffee. This is just in from yesterday… The Boerne Star has reported that Geneva Football has found its new head coach. Just over a week ago, Bob Rosenstiel took a job with Austin St. Michael’s as their head coach after just one season with Geneva. And his replacement is coming from Austin St. Michael’s; Get to know the name Adam Foren… he will be the next Eagles head coach. Rosenstiel was hired 342 days ago, and in this season, he took the team to the state semifinals. 

Hey and Boerne Radio Sports wouldn’t be sports without the electronic sports as well. In fact, Boerne Middle School South has some talented E-Sports players. A recent district tournament showcased said talent. The entire BMSS team did great, with Raymond Tena placing 2nd and Hendrix Leyendecker with a 3rd place finish.

It’s a great day to be a fan of the Texas Longhorns. The women’s basketball team are regional champions and are advancing to their 2nd-consecutive Final Four. They defeated Michigan last night to claim a spot in the national semifinal. That game will be against UCLA on Friday at 8:30 from Phoenix. 

And we get set for the Valero Texas Open from the challenging TPC San Antonio course down the road. It tees off Thursday and the purse is expected to be a whopping $9.8 million.
