The 2025 football season is long gone, but the awards just keep coming! Geneva Head Coach Bob Rosentiel was named TXPS Media’s TAPPS Division III Coach of the Year. This following a deep run with the Eagles year being so close to a state title. Well deserved for Coach Rosentiel. 

It’s Tuesday and that means district games continue for basketball with all games beginning at 6:30- tonight’s matchups include Boerne taking on Vets Memorial. The girls will be at home and the boys will be on the road. Champion boys will take a drive into San Antonio for a date with Alamo Heights, while the girls host the Mules at their place.

An early game for the MLK Day holiday for the Spurs Monday, but they defeated Utah 123-110. Other news announced was that Victor Wembanyama made the Western Conference all-star team, and as a starter! The selection was made via fan voting, media, and current players. On February 15, the NBA will adopt a new format as it’ll be Team USA vs Team the World competing in a round robin.

It’s Tuesday January 20th. 

 

And born on this date in 1930 is Americas oldest Astronaut Buzz Aldrin who turns 96 today… The 2nd man to walk on the Moon.   Paul Stanley from KISS is 73,and also born on this date 130 years ago was Nathan Birnbaum, the singer, actor, writer and comedian better known as George Burns. 

Here in Boerne happy birthday to Rosemarie Teran, Russell Pullen, and Shawn Lovorn!

Today begins the rehabilitation of several manholes in Fair Oaks Ranch within the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. City staff inspected 8.5 miles of sewer mains and almost 200 manholes, finding that 31 did not meet regulatory standards. As a result, repairs will begin on Cojak Circle, and over the next several weeks move west towards No Le Hace and Mellowind Circle. Use caution when driving through these areas.  

 

The Boerne Parks and Rec department has a new online reservation system to bring you a faster and easier way to sign up for programs and reserve park spaces. The new system, which is powered by Rec technologies is waiting for you at rec.us/boerne. 

 

We have a nice chance for some rain tomorrow and a better chance on Friday and as of now a 90% chance for rain or snow on Saturday…however The Kendall County Office of Emergency Management wants to remind you that the burn ban is still on as there were multiple grass fires yesterday.

It’s Monday, January 19th

 

And it’s Martin Luther King Day which is a Federal Holiday…it honors Dr. King in the month of his birthday which was January 15th born in 1929.  Stevie Wonders song Happy Birthday in 1980 helped play a part in Martin Luther King Day in becoming a law in 1983, and first observed in 1986. 

Also celebrating today in Boerne I see it’s Racene Feller’s Birthday…also a happy belated to Shawn Lovern of the Lovern Law Firm who celebrated yesterday along with Realtor Queen Susan Friar.

 

The Kendall County Tea Party has changed their name to the Boerne Civic Roundtable and the  Leadership Team is hosting a debate this Wednesday featuring Kendall County Judges running for office in this primary season.  The event will be held at the Boerne Library with participating candidates Incumbent Judge Shane Stolarczyk, Ricky Gleason, and Besa Martin.  Start time is 6:30 and will be moderated by Ron Cisneros.

Boerne Cemetery is about to see some long-term improvements aimed at safety and preservation. Beginning this Spring, City crews will conduct a comprehensive assessment and inventory of every headstone in the cemetery.  The initial phase will focus on markers that need to be leveled or resecured for safety reasons, including trees affected by oak wilt. The city will also be enforcing existing ordinances that regulate items left at gravesites.  Once the initial inventory is complete, crews will begin adding a monthly collection day for all unauthorized items.

 

And a quick reminder as it’s Martin Luther King Day - all government offices and services are closed today, including the banks and the chamber.  Your Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce is back tomorrow with a ribbon cutting at 1:30 for Stahl Medical.  On Wednesday they’ll be at the Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department celebrating 50 years of service. And then on Thursday at 11:30 they are cutting one more at the Chamber for Blueprint Therapy Services.

Headlines: Will Traylor commits to UTSA / Greyhound Cheer places high in competition / Texans out of playoffs, new teams to reach Super Bowl

Boerne Radio Sports!

After a great senior season with the Boerne Greyhound football team, another player has made his choice of school, to play at the next level. Will Traylor announced on Saturday he will continue his playing career down I-10 East at UTSA. He ended his high school career in the Alamodome, and now he will continue playing there on Saturdays this fall. 

Boerne Greyhound cheer also had themselves a weekend, finishing 11th out of 76 schools in a UIL competition. This was the 5A Division 2 bracket to be exact! Some athletic talent to report this Monday at Boerne High.

Well, it was definitely not the weekend to be a Houston Texans fan. They fell to a wittier Patriot team that beat them in snowy conditions, 28-16 in the NFL Divisional Round on Sunday. This now is another season the Texans don’t sniff the AFC Championship. And we are now over 2 weeks away from the Super Bowl- if you have a bet with your dad on who the two representatives could be-  it will be a combination of Denver or New England, and Seattle or the Rams. Championship Sunday is next Sunday.
