The first round for Greyhound baseball is set against Cedar Park- game 1 is Thursday at Leander at 6pm, game 2 is Friday at New Braunfels, and game 3 is Saturday at Leander. And we will have coverage here on Boerne Radio.

Comfort ended up beating Blanco 20-10 to claim the first place district spot, and will face Merkel in their first round series. 

For Geneva, a busy week as well. Today, golf will be at TAPPS regionals near the bay in Corpus Christi. Varsity baseball is in round 1 of the playoffs as they head to Fayetteville to take on First Baptist Academy for the area title tonight at 5. Tomorrow, track and field will be at the TAPPS Regional Meet at Antonian. 

And it’s game 5 between the Spurs and Trailblazers. San Antonio has a chance to close it out tonight at home. Tip-off is at 8:30 and can be seen on ESPN.

It’s Wednesday, April 29th. 

 

And turning 93 today is one of Texas’ favorite sons - Booger Red, the Red Headed Stranger, Shotgun Willie, Willie Hugh Nelson.   And born in Taylor Town, Texas  Duane Allen  of the Oak Ridge Boys turns 83 today.  And here in Boerne happy birthday to Theresa Schultz, Ariel Perez, and Jaclyn Weinheimer.

The new edition of The Boerne Star is in your inbox this morning and here are you headlines…Veronica Rector writes the full story on the Kendall County commissioners adding their pleas to TXDOT and other agencies to make 46 West safer and voted to find funding for more surveillance cameras in town.

 

Chef Mark from Compadres Hill County Cocina was honored with the 2025 Community Service Award bestowed by the George W. Kendall Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.  They also honored four Kendall County area high school seniors as DAR Good Citizens with scholarship money.  Those winners include Mary Elizabeth Simpson from Geneva, Kaydence Marie Stchling, Champion’s Robert Ethan Conrad, and Sydney Lane Smith from Boerne High - each receiving $1250.  

 

Back in 2023, the Boerne Parks and Rec Department asked crews for direct feedback on their operations campus with the focus on improving efficiency, organization and functionality. With the help of new staff members Rusty Fuller and Rudy Vega, staff began to reimagine the space. They began by incorporating two unused portable buildings, creating a training and break room, and offices for crew leaders. Storage spaces were renewed, and the team collaborated with the Street’s Department to build a new parking area and sidewalks, as well as brought equipment and vehicles back inside. 

 

There were some big birthdays in Boerne yesterday, specifically for some local businesses that have made a big impact locally. Boerne Community Theatre celebrated their 35th anniversary, Cypress Grill hit 20 years and Still Water Camps is celebrating 25 years in ministry. 

 

The Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center has been supporting local families since 1987, but each new family is treated as if they were the first. Every family receives a “Baby Shower in a Basket”, which is filled to the brim with baby essentials. Currently they are in need of newborn pacifiers, stuffed animals, and sweet summer outfits for boys and girls. Comfort’s playoff series is set against Merkel- games 1 and 2 will be at 3 and 6pm respectively at Brownwood High School tomorrow. Game 3 time and date is to be announced should it be necessary. 

Big day for Geneva as golf did amazing at the regional tournament- the girls finished 2nd with a total of 373 shot, and the boys got 4th with 330 shot and a state qualifier. And the track and field teams went to Antonian and dominated for regional qualifiers- this included 9 individual competitors and the 4x100 relay men’s team. 

The streets of San Antonio were filled with honking car horns and a lot of Spurs flags and banners to celebrate the first playoff series won by the Silver and Black since 2017. The Spurs defeated Portland 114-95 to put the dagger in the series and close it out. San Antonio makes it to round 2 and will face the winner of the Denver-Minnesota series still in action. On the other side of the western conference, Oklahoma City is awaiting the winner of Houston and the Lakers for round 2.

Today is the last day to early vote in that school board race and for city council in Fair Oaks Ranch - election day is this Saturday.

 

With electric dirt bikes being a popular Christmas gift, the Boerne Police Department wants to remind you of the laws in place on their use. Under Texas law, electric bicycles are permitted for use on roadways if they meet specific requirements: they must have fully operable pedals, have a motor of less than 750 watts and a max speed of 28 miles per hour.  However, Boerne Police are seeing faster bikes, so heads up, those e-bikes require insurance, registration, and a valid driver’s license.  Feel free to reach out to the Boerne PD with questions about yours.

 

A rare animal sighting in the Hill Country turned out to have a simple explanation. A coatimundi spotted near Highway 46 and FM 2673 in Comal County was safely captured and returned to its owners after being identified as an escaped pet. The raccoon-like animal is rarely seen in the area, as it’s typically native to far South Texas and parts of the Southwest. Authorities say there was no danger to the public. 

 

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch has been designated a Tree City USA for the third consecutive year, and the sign has already been updated to mark the milestone. One of the ways that the City has incentivized residents to protect their trees is through the Oak Wilt Program. Oak Wilt is a serious tree disease that is common in Central Texas;  residents can apply for a reimbursement of up to 50% of the total cost of oak wilt treatment, with a maximum payout of $1,500 per fiscal year.
