Big wins for Geneva baseball and softball at home. Both played John Paul II from Corpus Christi. Baseball won 16-6 and softball won 18-3. 

The men’s NCAA Tournament continues tonight with 16 teams left.. That's why they call it the Sweet 16. 11-seeded UT Austin faces 2-seeded Purdue at 6:10, and then a good one on hand between 3-seeded Illinois and 2-seeded Houston tip off at 9:05. Texas-Purdue will air on CBS, that’s “C” as is Charger, and Illinois-Houston will air on TBS; that’s “T” as in Texas. 

Also, it’s MLB Opening Day as teams have their first of 162 games. The Astros start at home against the Angels at 3:10, and the Rangers will be in Philadelphia for an opening matchup with the Phillies at 3:15.

And today Diana Ross turns 82, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler is 78, and Kenny Chesney is 58.

And a very happy Boerne Birthday to Denali Lewis a wonderful middle school science teacher in Boerne ISD.

The name has been released of the 21-year-old who died at that head-on crash on 46 near Enchanted Springs Ranch.   DPS said a black Chevrolet Cruze was heading to Bandera when quote “for unknown reasons,” it crossed over the center lines and collided head-on with a gray Dodge Ram 1500.  Bandera resident Jimmy Antonio Ruiz Morazan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram pickup truck was treated by EMS and released.  The investigation continues.

 

Also heads up, 1000s of No Kings protests are happening around the country with almost 100 in Texas with representation here in Boerne in front of City Hall this Saturday from 1-2:30. The next nearest ones are in Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and New Braunfels.  The last event was hosted by the Kendall County Democratic Party and they boasted around 1200 people protesting President Trumps ambition to be a dictator.  This year Cibolo Creek Indivisible Texas takes the lead and they are hoping to see around 2000 in front of City Hall.

Four Islamic schools have been admitted to the Texas voucher program after a federal judge ordered the state to invite the schools to apply. Finally, Chase Bank has set grand opening dates for two different branches opening here in Boerne. The new location off of Bandera will open its doors on April 16th, and the branch on Lemon Creek will host its grand opening on May 12th.

A couple of Boerne Radio Artists with birthdays today. Reginal Dwight was born on this date in 1947…making Elton John 79 today.  And the late Aretha Franklin - the queen of soul was born on this date in 1942.  

And right here in Boerne happy birthday to Madeleine Ebeling - she does great work supporting the American Heart Association.  And Chris Schoenfeld aka Showy The Cook.

A couple of major accidents yesterday - one Highway 46 West, leading to the road being closed in both directions for 4 hours. The fatal head-on collision occurred in the 300 block at around 4 pm near the entrance of Enchanted Springs Ranch. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.  

 

There was also a helicopter crash before 11am on private property at Headwaters Ranch between Sisterdale and Luckenbach. leading to the hospitalization of the pilot and passenger when it hit a tree, a DPS preliminary report said. The pilot was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio, and the passenger was taken to Methodist Hill Country Hospital in Fredericksburg.  The FAA will lead the investigation.

 

Five Boerne ISD campuses have been selected for a prestigious statewide leadership program. The schools will join the Holdsworth Center’s two-year Campus Leadership Program, designed to strengthen public school leadership and improve student outcomes.

Those schools include Boerne High School and 4 Elementary Schools - Cibolo Creek, Curington, Van Raub, and Viola Wilson - 5 of the 72 selected across Texas.

Geneva tennis continues to improve, as they are now 7-2-1. They defeated New Braunfels Christian with a commanding 9-3 victory. 

And the Spurs face off with the Grizzlies in Memphis tonight at 7.
