As we close out June it seems the dog days of summer are upon us... but that never means quit right? On top of numerous sports camps going on around Boerne ISD, this year's tennis camp managed to draw about 160 kids from the area as the district looks to the future generations of athletes. 

Well, Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant are seeming to fit well in the Spurs organization so far as well as their jerseys. We'll get to see them in a couple of weeks in Summer League games from Las Vegas. July 10 is the first game when they play Philadelphia. 

Major League Baseball... both teams are at home this weekend. The Astros take an easy 7-4 win over the Cubs, and the Rangers in a divisional battle with Seattle ended up falling 7-6 in 12 innings on a play at the plate that was close, but settled in the Mariners way. Both teams continue their respective series today.

That is when the amount of sunshine is approximately 12 hours long.

Spring officially starts at 9:46 tomorrow morning.

 

And a few Boerne Birthdays to celebrate today…happy birthday to Stephanie Aguirre she’s the owner of Jump N’Boerne, Lindsay Johnson, Tricia Tomallo, Jacob Reed, and fellow San Antonio Radio Hall of Famers CJ Cruz.

If traffic and transportation is a hot topic and concern for you here in Boerne, The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is hosting 5 public meetings looking for advice and feedback on how to spend 1.9 billion dollars in transportation projects.  One is at New Braunfels City Hall tonight, 2 in San Antonio, then Seguin, and on Monday they will be in Boerne at the Patrick Heath Public Library starting at 5:30.  There you can learn about and comment on the draft 2027 to 2030 Transportation Improvement Program, which outlines projects set for funding and construction. Officials say it’s a chance to see what’s coming to our community, ask questions, and provide feedback before the plan is finalized.  In fact there’s a traffic survey they’d like you to take to identify your concerns and ideas and we have that link in the news blog at Boerne Radio.com.

And last night was the first of the Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy, which is a 12-week program from the Police Departments of Fair Oaks Ranch and Boerne, as well as the Kendall County Sheriff's Office. The class boasted the largest turnout in 8 years.  They will be holding the class every Wednesday until the first week of June.

The Kendall County Fire Department is hiring!  They are looking for dedicated individuals ready to serve their community with pride, discipline, and teamwork. There is one firefighter position open, and you will need TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter training and DSHS EMT Basic training. This position responds out of the Comfort VFD station and supports all-hazards response, including fires, medical calls, vehicle accidents, floods, and natural disasters. 

 

Last week, Judge Stolarczyk rode along with Meals on Wheels driver Barbara to observe first hand the impact that the Meals on Wheels program has on our community. Each week they provide 1000s of meals within the community, specifically for the elderly population within the county. He is the first of hopefully many officials riding along to help out the program.
