Champion baseball swept La Joya Palmview over the weekend and are now in the regional final- they will now face the Raiders of Leander Rouse - the Raiders beat Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial by winning the 3rd game and scoring 4 in the 5th then one more in the 6th after a one hitter - final score 5 to 0. The winner of this round heads to the state semis. A lot is on the line. We will carry the games on Boerne Radio… the times and exact dates for the series are still to be announced. 

At the state track meet, Comfort’s Carter Pape earned a silver medal in the long jump competition. The only other Comfort athlete there, Molly Gowan, placed 6th in the high jump. And Boerne High’s Presley Merkins set a new school record in the 800m with a time of 2:11.99. 

Alright, its time- game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals is TONIGHT. After the Spurs clinched with a win Friday, they now head up I-35 to Oklahoma City to start the best of 7. Shae Gilgeous-Alexander for Oklahoma City has won back to back MVP titles yesterday and will receive his trophy before game 1 tonight- Wemby only received 5 first place votes in that election. In other words, prepare for a fire to ignite from the Frenchman tonight. San Antonio did go 4-1 against the Thunder in the regular season, with the last meeting between the two being in February. But Spurs fans, don’t let that winning record be the decider early on. It will be a physical, stressful, and challenging series for both teams in fact. Just know in the end, the better team will be heading to the Finals and will for sure have earned it. No need for a million subscriptions this time- the entire series will air on NBC and Peacock. Tonight’s tip is scheduled for 7:30.

Early voting begins today for the Primary Run-off Election - Election Day officially is next Tuesday. On the Republican ballot in Kendall County are races for US Senator between Ken Paxton and John Cornyn,  for Attorney General it’s between Chip Roy and Mayes Middleton, for Railroad Commissioner you have Jim Wright and Bo French, and for Criminal Appeals Judge in Place 3 your choices are Alison Fox and Thomas Smith.  And locally, incumbent Shane Stolarczyk and Ricky Gleason are facing off for County Judge, while County Commissioner Precinct 2 is seeing the run off race between J.C. Taylor and Andra Wisian.

 

On the Democratic Ballot, no local races - just the runoff for Lieutenant Governor Vikki Goodwin and Marcos Isaias Velez,, and for Attorney General, your choices are Joe Jaworski and Nathan Johnson.

You can vote any day this week thru Friday from 7 to 7 at the Kendall County Courthouse Annex. 

 

If you’d like to meet our local candidates one last time, there’s a good chance they will be curbside outside the Annex…and a greater chance they will be under their tent because of our wonderful chance to get at least 4 inches of rain this week.

 

There was a small chlorine leak over the weekend in the 100 block of Deer Trail in the Ranger Creek subdivision. The Boerne Fire Department and Kendall County Sheriff’s Office quickly jumped into action with the help of the San Antonio Fire Department. All affected residents were notified, and the leak was mitigated by midday Saturday. 

 

The directors for the Hill Country Council for the Arts and the Agricultural Museum paid tribute with a post and story in the Boerne Star announcing the sad passing of Rob Ziegler. Rob was a longtime servant on the Boerne City Council, as well as the treasurer for numerous art organizations.  He was on the Dickens on Main Committee and was there when the Wild Bill Hickok landmark was installed in Main Plaza.  Boerne Radio had the honor of emceeing the final Boerne Beirfest that Rob Ziegler helped organize.  In his honor Rob's wife, Lucy, will be hosting a memorial service for him from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday June 6 at The AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center.

It’s Friday, May 15th. 

 

And back in 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and it’s still National Police Week. If we don’t say it everyday, thank you to our Boerne Police Department, and our Kendall County Sheriff's Office.  We also remember our heroes in Law enforcement who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty - Sheriff Edge in 1948,  Sheriff Kuebel in 1971, Trooper Kurt David Knapp in 2004,  Community Supervision Officer Russell Dean Salazar in 2019, and Deputy Carlos Ramirez in 2019.

 

You know how we’re always shocked when you hear the first day of school is in early August and we brag about not starting school until Labor Day…well the last day of school this year is next Thursday the 21st.  And for the seniors at Boerne High School senioritis was treated yesterday with Senior Field Day with the biggest bouncy houses ever and they tore it up….enjoy your last week Class of 2026 - and the first day of School for the 2026-2027 school year is June 31st… just kidding - August 11th. 

 

After recent rains, Boerne Officials want to assure you that the Cibolo Creek Dam in River Road Park is not cracking and remains structurally sound. However, drought conditions have not been relieved, and water levels are once again dropping. According to City Spokesperson Chris Shadrock, these drops could be due to ongoing drought conditions, changes in creek capacity after sediment removal and subsurface seepage occurring under portions of the dam.  Our next chance for rain is Monday and everyday next week thru Saturday.

 

New directors are taking their seats with the Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation - the appointments were announced at their annual members luncheon at Tapatio Springs. The current board will include Dakota Durden with GRIT Co., Caleb Clark with Edward Jones, Tony Trevino with Vantage Bank Texas, Chuck Gregory with Terrracon and Phil Hunke of Hill Country Square.  At-large members are Charity Huber of BEC and Phillip Quintanilla of WS & P Insurance.
