Headlines: Dates and Times for Champion Series announced / Stan Leech to be enshrined in TABC Hall of Fame / Spurs introduce Mitch Johnson as head coach

This is Boerne Radio Sports… I am Esteban Serrano. 

If you don’t have weekend plans, I just made you some… the sites and times for the Champion series have been announced- all games will be at the SAISD Complex in San Antonio. Game 1 gets us underway Thursday at 4:30, game 2 Friday at 4:30, and then game 3 if needed will be Saturday at 1. Of course the Chargers will play MacArthur in the 2nd round of the UIL playoffs. And of course, if you can’t make it out to the game, Boerne Radio will have you covered for all three games… so grab your soda pop and sit by your radio or smart device 30 minutes prior for the pregame show. 

And also happening Saturday… The day has finally come, we’ve been talking about it for months… Stan Leech will receive his flowers as a member of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. Having been a coach himself, he won 833 games all-time and is one of the most accomplished coaches in Texas… but has given his heart to both Boerne and Boerne Champion as coach and Athletic Director. 

The Spurs had a special press conference on Monday to announce Mitch Johnson as the head coach, but the organization, as always, had to do it right - Coach Pop was in attendance to officially pass the torch. “I’m no longer coach, I’m “El Jefe,” which in Spanish means ‘the boss.’ This was also Pop’s first public remarks since his stroke in early November. Spurs players, former and current, were in attendance for the presentation of Johnson as the new coach. Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili escorted Pop to the podium, they both looked like his secret service… but Johnson following had nothing but positive words to say about the organization, the city, the current roster, and his predecessor. The next huge stop on the offseason tour for the Spurs is Monday for the NBA Draft Lottery.
