Headlines: Chargers in game 3 against MacArthur for the area title / MacArthur senior catcher Ben Salazar got one more catch in series following medical diagnosis / Stan Leech inducted in hall of fame

Let’s recap game 3 from Saturday between Champion and MacArthur… so the stakes were big as the winner took everything and the losers were sent packing. An area championship on the line, and more importantly, the opportunity to play another week… I’ll start by saying it was a runaway game for Champion… by about the 4th inning or so it seemed they had it in the bag. They had a chance to run-rule the Brahmas in the 6th and they did just that. Jaedyn Yamaguchi singled and brought in Owen Kuhl with an RBI triple which at that point gave Champion a 10-0 lead, the game, and the series. Champion will now face Sharyland High School from Mission, Texas in the regional semifinals this week… more details to come.

During the game, an emotional and powerful moment that both sides got to witness - in late innings, Brahmas coach Jody Medina briefly substituted players so Ben Salazar could catch one last pitch as a MacArthur player. Salazar was diagnosed with a brain cyst that essentially ended his baseball career, in which surgery took place over a year ago. The MacArthur crowd was cheering as Salazar received hugs from his teammates and even Champion coach Ben Woodchick… I mean you can’t help but get choked up about that. Incredible story… great series to MacArthur. 

Some more history was made over the weekend… Stan Leech’s name is now forever in the TABC Hall of Fame. Before he was AD at Boerne ISD, he spent some time coaching basketball for Yorktown and Copperas Cove as well as both Boerne high schools. His record a whopping 833-324… 12 district titles, 3 regional championships, and 3 state tournaments. If that doesn’t scream “hall-of-famer”, I don’t know what does! He received his plaque on Saturday at a special dinner… congratulations once again Mr. Stan Leech, now Mr. Hall-Of-Famer.
