Headlines: Individual awards given to Greyhound and Geneva basketball players / Astros and Rangers play in Opening Day action / Spurs start final 10-game season stretch Saturday

This is Boerne Radio Sports, happy Opening Day to all who celebrate!

Lets first start with Jenna Ruede - she’s being recognized by the Texas Girls Coaches Association with a big-time recognition for her work as a senior this past year on the Greyhounds basketball squad… she was named a Legacy All-Star. Geneva also had a few boys and girls on their teams that got recognized as well - these from TAPPS… Madeline Egbert, Colton Lutz, Grace Detterick, Jake Roberson, Morgan Howard, Sopris Oglesby, Jack Walker Harden, Harlan Mangum, Bryce Hanover, and Payton Boles all either had an all-team, all-district, or all-academic recognition or more than one.

Today is Opening Day for MLB… the long-awaited day has finally come. At 3:05, the Rangers will host the Red Sox in a pitching matchup between Garrett Crochet from Boston and Nathan Eovaldi for Texas. The Astros will go to work 5 minutes following at 3:10- Clay Holmes will hit the bump for New York and Framber Valdez for Houston. Notably, this will also be the debut game for Juan Soto in a Mets uniform after signing his record-setting $765 million contract for 15 years in the offseason. Also, this will be Jose Altuve’s 14th season as an Astro. He first stepped foot on the Houston field in 2011. 

And for the NBA, we’re coming down to the final 10 games of the season. The Spurs have had a nice few days off… and they get to work Saturday when they host Boston. Tip off will be at 7.
