Monday 3/24

This is Boerne Radio Sports, I’m Esteban Serrano.

Let’s take you first out to the 2nd Annual San Antonio Sports All-Star Basketball Game where Boerne was represented well. Team White for the girls was coached by Amy Ruede while Greyhounds Chloe Donnell and Jenna Ruede played for the final time together… Maegan Riebel from Geneva was also on that team and white actually ended up winning! For the boys, Casen Hoegemeyer represented white while Baeden Burdick from Champion, and Colton Lutz and Wyatt Bruss represented Geneva on Team Blue. One last time for most if not all of the athletes who represented, and they went out in style.

Geneva baseball and softball had their way in a joust against the rival Holy Cross Knights this weekend. Softball took a 9-8 win while baseball won 7-4 and now move to 2-1 in district.

Geneva’s results from Thursday’s Cornerstone Track and Field meet were posted - notably, Griffin Miller won gold in the discus, Brady Chandler earned silver in the Long Jump with 19’11 and holds the 2nd-longest record for the event in school history. Brady Chandler placed 4th in the 100M, Annabelle Halbach earned 5th in the high jump, Harper Dwyer earned 6th in the 100M hurdles, and Reid Aderholt earned 6th in the 200M.

Spurs win big in Toronto last night to extend their win streak to 3. San Antonio wins 123-89… with the Spurs going to Detroit tomorrow night at 6 to play the Pistons.

First weekend of March Madness is over for the men - We’re now 12 games away from knowing which regional champs will play at the Alamodome in the NCAA Final Four on April 5. Slowly but surely, the fans’ perfect brackets started to diminish with the last one busting when Kentucky knocked off Illinois. Some notable games included 1-seeded Houston beating Gonzaga, Texas Tech beat Drake, Michigan knocked off the A&M Aggies, 1-seeded Duke knocked off Baylor, and 1-seeded Florida beat the defending champions in UConn. Sweet 16 action begins Thursday.
