Head Coach of Charger football Blane Ellis has been nominated by Dave Campbell’s for the Game Changing Coach Award! And the reason is just as it sounds - because Coach Ellis cares about his players he goes above and beyond for them on and off the field. Boerne ISD Athletics on Instagram wants you to continue to keep an eye out for when voting starts.

If you’re an NCAA basketball fan, you’ll find something pretty interesting coming up next season- a coach’s challenge. Now coaches will be able to challenge calls if they have timeouts available, similar to the NBA, and can earn another challenge back if they are successful. The NCAA announced the new rule on Tuesday.

Born on this date in 1939 Soul and Gospel Singer Mavis Staples turns 86 today, Arlo Guthrie turns 77, and the lovable actor who played Herman Munster Fred Gwynne was born 99 years ago today.

 

The Kendall County Office of Emergency Management is reminding everyone of a few important safety measures as recovery efforts continue.

Drones must stay grounded, a burn ban remains in effect, and residents are urged not to break down debris piles. Officials are asking the public to wait for further guidance before beginning any cleanup.

Specialized response teams are arriving today as part of a coordinated effort with the Kerr County Emergency Operations Center and state agencies— as many people remain unaccounted for.

As of yesterday, eight individuals have been confirmed deceased in Kendall County. Out of respect for the families, their names and details will not be released by emergency officials.

 

Meanwhile, community support has been overwhelming, but there are a few urgent needs on the ground. The Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department is asking for leather work gloves—and lots of them—as standard gloves are falling apart in the debris. If you can help, drop them off at the fire department on Sisterdale Road.

Other needed items include First Aid Kits, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. Infiniti of Boerne, off I-10, is one of the main drop-off locations.

Headlines: Spurs, NBA draw groups for NBA Cup in the fall / Both Rangers and Astros lose

The NBA drew groups for their 3rd-annual NBA Cup coming up on October 31. The NBA Cup is a series of games played every season where, similar to how the FIFA World Cup format is played, the team with the most wins out of a group seeds into a tournament where knockout rounds occur and the last team standing wins...They win a trophy and a nice cash bonus. The Spurs are in group West C, and their opponents will be Denver, Houston, Golden State, and Portland.

The Rangers in game 3 of a 4-game series with Anaheim loses 11-8 last night in a back and forth game, while the Astros pick up another loss, 4-2, to the Guardians.

After the declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, edited by John Adams’ Committee of Five, signed by representatives from 13 states, copies were made and it was on this date in 1776 - The Declaration of Independence is read to George Washington’s troops in New York.

While we’ve experienced so much rain, the Burn Ban is back on for the next two weeks.  The idea was County Judge Shane Stolarczyk’s as although many people want to get rid of the growing debris from the Guadalupe, teams need to search them as thoroughly as possible. Stolarczyk also said search teams, first responders, fire departments are at the county border now and will continue to be in and out within the next 10 days.  Let’s not give our first responders any more to deal with your own burn for just a couple of weeks.

 

The Planning and Zoning Commission has rejected Goodwill’s bid to move into the 16,000 square foot vacant property in the Live Oak Shopping Center on North Main. The commissioners heard advocacy for the nonprofit giant from the property owner and the project applicant but were ultimately swayed by the local thrift store owners and employees. They ultimately voted 6 to 1.  Now the item will go before the City Council for the final say.
