Headlines: Kerrville Flood claims life of beloved coach and wife / Texas NFL teams to provide over $1 million in disaster relief / MLB All-Star selections and a dominant weekend for the Astros

Monday 7/7

This is Boerne Radio Sports…

Heartbreaking news to begin with as the facts from the flood continue to come in- our friends of Kerrville Tivy lost their beloved soccer coach Reece Zunker in the disaster. His wife Paula was unfortunately a victim of the flood as well and their two kids are still missing, Kerrville ISD posted on Sunday. They are asking for prayers during the unspeakable tragedy, and we are certainly sending victims and their families all the love in the world right now. Boerne ISD Athletics pages on social media are sending prayers as well to the family and our friends in Kerrville and at Kerrville Tivy.

In an effort to help with the floods, both the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, along with the NFL Foundation announced they are combining $1.5 million to provide relief and long term assistance to the areas that were impacted. The Spurs, Astros, Mavericks, Missions, and Dallas Stars NHL hockey team all released statements sending prayers and thoughts to Kerrville and Central Texas.

I think it’s fair to say at times like this, sports in some way brings communities together and always finds ways aside from on a court or field, to help people in communities who need it most, and those were just a few examples. Kerrville is in our thoughts at this very unprecedented and tragic time. Tivy Fight Never Dies.

MLB is gearing up for the All-Star game happening next Tuesday, the 15th. The state of Texas will be represented well among the two teams with Jeremy Peña, along with pitchers Hunter Brown and Josh Hader for Houston, join the only Ranger to make it- pitcher Jacob DeGrom. As for scores, the Astros outscored the Dodgers 29-6 the entire series with a 5-1 victory Sunday. The Rangers are 44-46 after losing Sunday to the Padres 4-1.
