Hey quick shout out to not only the Boerne ISD High School Sports Camps going on now like the Volleyball teams filling up the gyms again, lets not forget the Color Guard Camp and the Percussion Camp going on today…Band Camp officially starts next Monday on the 29th.

Just a couple of weeks left in the Tuesday night Mens Summer Softball League at Northrup Park thanks to the Parks and Rec Department barring any more rain outs.  And in case you’re wondering…

Drunk Dynasty is in 3rd place, the JGroomed Team is in 2nd with a record of 10 and 2, and the Playboys with Michael Melnick as their coach are in 1st place with an undefeated record of 12-0.

And in real baseball news…

The Astros currently lead the American League West with a 52-49 record after falling to Oakland 8-2 last night. Seattle is tied with Houston for first with a 53-50 record – both sharing a 515 percentage….

The Rangers are 3 games back from that first place tie with their win yesterday… 3-2 against the White Sox. They are 49-52 overall. 

Astros have lost the last three games in a row, while the Rangers have won their last 3 games in a row.

Saturday 7/27

Cayden Van Dyne from the Charger aquatics team was a participant at the Junior Olympics playing water polo, Champion posted on X yesterday. Boerne Champion and the city has one of their own at Stanford competing with the best of the best… that is something to be BoerneProud about. 

Speaking of the Olympics… the Olympic Opening Ceremony took place in Paris yesterday with a beautiful light show, display of countries around the world on river barges, and a performance by the legendary Celine Dion… It was a one-of-a-kind event that looked spectacular even on TV! (I can only imagine in person)

The games get started bright and early today- some notable events taking place are the men’s basketball group play with France taking on Brazil, and Canada taking on Greece. Team USA Men’s soccer takes on New Zealand in group play, and the rugby team will battle Ireland. Swimming, diving, cycling, and tennis are among the individual events happening throughout today.

In baseball, the Rangers fall in Toronto 6-5, and the Astros shutout the Dodgers 5-0. With a win by Seattle as well, this pushes Texas back to 3.5 games and Houston with a 1 game lead over Seattle for the division lead. Both series continue today.

Friday 7/26

Over 10,000 athletes, 206 nations, 32 sports… and only a handful of gold medals… the Olympics start today in Paris where the opening ceremonies will take place at 11 in the morning local time and go on for the next 2 weeks. Team USA are favorites to win plenty of events so we will keep an eye on that…

But some gold medalists have already been crowned over at Champion High School with the volleyball camp going on… Each classification partaking had a team that won their tournament… The Rizzlers win the 4th grade tournament, The Sparkly Unicorns are the 5th grade champions, the Blue Tigers for 6th grade, The Nike Eagles win the Court 1 Tournament, Sparkles for Court 2, and Southern Heat for Court 3. Just wait until all of these winners play for Champion one day…

Now we’ll head over to baseball with the Texas Rangers… they’re climbing that ladder once again with both Seattle and Houston off yesterday, they complete the sweep of the White Sox in a 2-1, high noon victory. This puts Texas 2.5 games back of Houston for the division lead, and they are on a 5-game win streak. Now, the Rangers will travel to Rogers Centre in Toronto for a 3-game series with the Blue Jays. As for Houston, they’re finally back home and will take on the Dodgers tonight through Sunday.

Boerne Radio Sports - July 26, 2024

It’s Friday July 26th. 



And born on this date in 1943 - John Lennon called him The Phantom, and Keith Richards called him Her Majesty - Mick Jagger turns 81 years old today.  And in Texas History the first president of the Republic of Texas died at the age of 70 on this date in 1863. Sam Houston - while famous for winning the battle at San Jacinto, lost his battle with Pneumonia at his home in Huntsville.



During the hottest months of the year, animals suffer as much from the heat as humans. Because of this, Boerne Animal Care Services has partnered with the Boerne Police and Fire Departments to provide emergency go bags when encountering an animal in need. Our friends over at Fetch and Friskers on Main Street were able to provide much needed supplies to make the go bags a reality, we’re talking water bottles, bowls, leashes, treats and food. In total, 30 bags were made and distributed to be placed in squad cars and fire trucks. 



Don’t forget that tomorrow is the Boerne ISD Back to School Resource Rally, which will benefit the District’s students in need. The event will take place at the Boerne ISD Central Office in room 135 from 9 to noon and will allow students to sign up for the resources they need this year. A Job Fair will also be taking place tomorrow at the central office during this time, so if you are looking for a career within the District for jobs like Transportation, Custodial Services, substitute teachers, food service, and maintenance you will be able to speak to administration and apply. 



Throughout the months of June and July, Boerne ISD has hosted seven training sessions for multiple Law Enforcement agencies across the state. Active Attack Integrated Response was the focus for the month of June and allowed over 100 attendees to review and practice life saving techniques during critical incidents. Then in July, Boerne ISD hosted Law Enforcement Rapid Response training for 20 agencies in the state, fulfilling its duty as the regional host for ALERRT.
