Headlines:Geneva Basketball undefeated/ College Football Playoff/Spurs game

Both Geneva Basketball teams- they boys and the girls came into 2025 undefeated in district. And they both face John Paul II from Corpus Christi today, with the girls tipping off at 3 and the boys at 4:30. 

The semi finals are set for the College Football Playoff. And it’s an interesting bunch- The Longhorns of UT won New Year’s Day and their next assignment is the Ohio State Buckeyes next Friday in the Cotton Bowl. Penn State had beat Boise State Tuesday, and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans between Georgia and Notre Dame was supposed to happen Wednesday, but due to the unfortunate attack on Bourbon Street, the game was postponed to yesterday. Notre Dame defeated Georgia 23-10. That means the other side of the bracket is Penn State vs Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl- the winner goes to the National Championship. 

And a correction from Thursday’s report- the Spurs did not play last night, they play tonight at 8 in Denver; then they come home tomorrow night to play… you guessed it… the Denver Nuggets. Going into tonight’s game, San Antonio is 17-16.

We’ll start with the Champion Boys Basketball team, which took care of business last night against Kerrville Tivy with a big win—73 to 49.

Geneva Boys Basketball are 4-0 in the district with a bigger win - they also scored 73 points - a long night for John Paul II Corpus - they scored 9 - pray for the Pope.

Senior Kyra Petty with the Lady Eagles of Geneva got her 1000th career point in their win over John Paul II - 68-20.

One more story for Geneva…The fans voted in the Texas Association of Private and Paraochial School TAPPS All Texas Team for Football - 12 players on the list from all over the State and 2 of them are from Boerne Geneva - congrats to Brady Chandler and Reid Wilson.

Spurs got a big win in Denver last night 113-110…now the Nuggets come to San Antonio in a back to back as they try to get one back…Go Spurs Go.  By the way happy birthday to Victor Wembanyama - he turns 21 today.

Headlines:  Boerne City Park Gets ADA Upgrades / 120,000 Visitors to Boerne in December / Donate Blood Today To Replenish After New Orleans

It’s Friday January 3rd. 

It was on this date in 1964 that the Beatles first appeared on American televisions. No, it wasn’t Ed Sullivan…it was Jack Paar on the Tonight Show and aired a film clip of the Beatles singing “She Loves You”. 

Boerne City Park is set to undergo significant ADA upgrades to make its playground area more accessible for all residents, with construction beginning Monday, January 6. It will take approximately 8-10 weeks to complete and will include a variety of new equipment like a celebration spinner, Inclusive Swing Seat, a Butterfly Photo Station, Toddler Musical Instruments and a Buddy Bench. Crews will also replace the mulch with rubber matting, which will increase the safety of the play area. And for the record the Boerne Parks Association raised the $150,000 needed for the upgrades.

The City of Boerne revealed that the Holiday Season was extremely successful for us, with almost 120,000 visitors making their way to downtown Boerne. Dickens alone drew 48,000 attendees over that first weekend, making it one of the most successful in history.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is asking the public to donate blood to help deal with the emergency in New Orleans. Our local center in partnership with the Blood Emergency Readiness Corp sent much needed supplies to Louisiana. Now, the Center here desperately needs to be replenished and hopes to continue providing aid. In order to schedule your appointment to donate, visit southtexasblood.org/give.

Headlines:Geneva senior sets school record/Peach Bowl Game/Spurs record

2 days into 2025, and Senior Geneva Basketball star Wyatt Bruss finished 2024 with a record-setting performance during the Hill Country Classic. He set the school record during the game against FEAST in which he scored 47 points and made 13 threes in the game… by my calculations that’s 39 of those points just off threes… phonomenal numbers for the senior and for the program. Wow! 

The Longhorns of UT ‘hooked’ the Sun Devils of Arizona State in the Peach Bowl yesterday. A game that came down to overtime and ended off an interception by UT Austin, was a nail-biter but the Longhorns advance by a score of 39-31. They will now face Ohio State next Friday in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, for a chance to advance to the College Football National Championship.

The Spurs are now 17-16 after closing out the year dominating the Clippers… now they open 2025 in Denver when they face the Nuggets tonight at 8.
