The best 2 words in sports- game. Seven. The Spurs in spectacular fashion did what they needed to do and played hard to force a game 7 Saturday. Game 6 last night was won by team work and possibly the St. John Bosco Salesian Sisters’ blessings on the team. Wemby had 28 points in the effort and was feeling himself- Spurs led the whole way through, and pushed out a final of 118-91. 

Now this means the series is tied at 3 games apiece. We head back to OKC on Saturday night for the decider. It’s a do or die game- if the Spurs win, they clinch their first NBA Finals berth since 2014. If they lose, this spectacular playoff run comes to an end. The keys to victory will be a near-perfect game- a good shooting percentage collectively, a big game from Wemby, Harper, and Fox, and disciplined defense like last night. If all that happens, I think we may be seeing the Spurs in the battle for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Game 7 is tomorrow night at 7 on NBC.

And if you haven’t seen all the superstitions on social media- Spurs fans are relying on the predictions made two weeks ago by AirCorg on TikTok, who is a corgi that predicts sports events and series… got the first six games correct. And for game 7, his prediction is, the Spurs. Take that for what it is but he hasn’t been incorrect yet. 

Up in Fort Worth for the Charles Schwab Classic, and through round 1, you’re not going to believe this, 6 golfers are tied for 1st. 5 of those are Americans. No eagles recorded yet among those 6, but Ryan Gerard and Tom Kim of South Korea each have 8 pars. We’ll see who comes out of this in first place come Sunday.

It was on this date in 1917 that the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was born.  And some more powerful people in Boerne celebrating a birthday today include Patrick Cohoon with Leger, Ketchum and Cohoon - and talk about power couple with Judge Kirsten Cohoon…newly married and new power couple and formerly Miss San Antonio Emma Faye Rudkin with Aid The Silent, and one more…happy birthday Dawn Adamek over at Boerne ISD in the Fine Arts Department…and the other half of power couple with Coach Chris.

Congratulations to Letty Moncada for retiring after 22 years as a dispatcher at the Boerne Police Department. Her calm voice, professionalism and compassion will be missed by the force and citizens alike. Deputy G. Cardenas also just celebrated 5 years with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. He is a proud member of the Honor Guard, and ensures the safety and security of the courthouse every day. 

 

Bandera Electric Cooperative has been named one of the San Antonio Business Journal’s 2026 Best Places to Work.

BEC was recognized in the large employer category, with the final rankings to be announced at an awards ceremony in July.

The honor is based on employee feedback about workplace culture, training, retention, and innovation.

After storms knocked out the power at the New Braunfels Utilities wastewater facility, more than 550,000 gallons of untreated wastewater flooded into the Guadalupe River. A utility lift station lost power between 1 and 4 in the morning on Wednesday, meaning wastewater could not be transported, eventually flooding the system. Cleanup began shortly after the flooding stopped, which included dirt removal and disinfecting areas where the overflow occurred. No residential areas needed to be disinfected, and the spill should have no effect on the drinking water. 

 

The Kendall County Commissioner's Court heard about a safety improvement project for the dangerous stretch on Highway 46 at their most recent meeting. The 6 year project would include adding turn lanes at seven intersections, a 4-foot centerline buffer and a barrier at Webster’s Curve. One of the more pressing matters is preventing crashes due to speeding and difficult turns- to deal with it in the meantime, TxDOT plans to install rumble strips along the centerline, adding warning signs and improving pavement markings. The short-term project is expected to finish in two years, while the final schematic design is projected to take up to six years, and funding has already been secured.

It’s Thursday May 28th. 

 

And a couple of Boerne Radio artists were born on this date - The Empress of Soul Gladys Knight turns 82 years old today…and founder of the swamp rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival John Fogerty turns 81 today.  Also born on this date in 1910 was American blues guitar legend T-Bone Walker who was born in Linden, Texas. And here in Boerne Happy Birthday to Tori Sherrill and Kristina Wood!

 

DeVino Cellars is celebrating the grand opening of its new downtown Boerne location with a three-day event this weekend. Festivities run May 29th through the 31st and include wine tastings, live music, food, and ceremonial sabering celebrations - that’s where they open that bottle of champagne with a saber…that idea start during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 1800s when Napoleon’s cavalry officers would celebrate their battlefield victories by riding off on their horses and pop the top without having to dismount. On Saturday, the first 50 customers will receive a complimentary bottle of wine. The new wine bar is located at 112 East San Antonio Avenue in downtown Boerne next to the Good To Go Barbershop.

Officials have identified the man who was found in Boerne City Lake over the weekend as Du Long from San Antonio. The 80 year old man had unfortunately gone underwater and couldn’t stay afloat-the Boerne Fire Department was called at 2:30, but no one was able to help in time. Long’s body was found in about 20 feet of water and recovered just before 6:30 p.m., according to authorities. 

 

Fair Oaks Ranch is hosting Celebrating America’s 250th with several events before the fireworks and laser show on July 4th.  First up, they are calling all student writers and artists to share what America means to them in the form of an essay or art.  That contest is due June 5th.  There’s a door decoration contest with that winner picked on June 24th.  The patriotic parade is on Saturday morning June 27th at 10. The Veterans and Military Honor Breakfast is on the 29th. And the Community Trail Walk/Run is on July 3rd.  All the details are at fairoaksranchtxevents.com.

Alright…we start with the Spurs - tonight in the Frost Bank Center is Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals…a must win for the Spurs to force a Game 7 back in OKC.  Game 6 starts at 7:30.  Vegas says the Thunder are the 5.5 favorites tonight…but they aren’t playing in Vegas, they are playing here.  OKC is not Okay.  The question is who is hungrier?  We are starving.  Go Spurs Go.

 

The Astros beat the Rangers last night 4-3 in Arlington.   Both teams have losing records so far this year…The Rangers are 25 and 30, Astros are 25 and 32…in fact everyone in the American League West have losing records with Seattle in first place with a record of 28 and 29. 

 

The Charles Schwab Challenge begins today at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth that’s happened there every May since 1946.  Players to watch include past champion JJ Spaun, defending champion Ben Griffin, and other favorites like Aberg, Justin Thomas, and Rickie Fowler.

 

Happy summer vacation to all…enjoy every precious day…the first day of football practice for the Greyhounds starts on August the 3rd…helmets only.  For Champion it’s Monday August 10th, the first day of school is August 11th…the first football scrimmage for the Greyhounds is on the 13th as they host La Vernia.  The Chargers will welcome New Braunfels on the 14th,  that’s a Friday night of course.  What you need to know is that Season Tickets for both teams go on sale on June the 8th starting at noon with a maximum of 8 season tickets per family.  That’s for previous season ticket holders.  If you’re a newbie, your tickets will go on sale August 3rd through Hometown Tickets.  Sponsors will get their tickets that same day too.
