Another nice award landing in Boerne…Texas High School Football Magazine - have you heard of that? -  was picking out Players of the Year and in the TAPPS Cagetory for Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools - Geneva Eagle Brady Chandler earns the title of Player of the Year.  #TalonsUp

What a crazy night in Buda Texas where The Boerne Greyhound Soccer Team was in the Bi-District Playoff match against Liberty Hill - they led 1-0 at the half, then in the 2nd half Liberty Hill earned a penalty kick to tie it up, Boerne scores again on a header off a throw-in…and then with 41 seconds left in the game the Panthers were awarded another penalty kick to tie it up…that means overtime.  Boerne Star Sports Editor Kerry Barboza was there to witness the action…Kerry, how did it end?

Again…this is the part where we remind you - last year we were 4A, this year 5A and the Greyhounds made the playoffs.  So proud of the Hounds!

The 13-2 Boerne Greyhound Baseball Team is back at it tonight against District rival Smithson Valley who are 10-5 - first pitch is at 7:00.  The 12-4 Champion Chargers are playing away at Alamo Heights tonight - the Mules are only 4-10 with 1 tie. 

On the girl's softball side the 7-5 Greyhounds face 4-12 Wagner on the road.  The Lady Chargers are also on the road again, a tough Veterans Memorial who are 11-2.  Champion is coming off a 7-3 win on Tuesday night against Kerrville Tivy.

The Lady Eagles of Geneva clobbered Lutheran High School after 3 innings thanks to the 15-run mercy rule. Reese Smith had 3 RBIs, Madeline Egbert had a double, a triple, and 4 RBIs, Kate Friesenhahn went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, and Carlyle Harden also went 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs. The final score there was 22 to 6

In Tennis Geneva School of Boerne got a big win over San Antonio Christian School - 12 matches to 5.  They head to San Marcos today for more tournament play, and the big district tournament in New Braunfels a week from today.

Boost Boerne Business - Swing Strong Till It's Gone Golf Tournament

It’s Friday March 20th. 

 

And born on this date in 1937 was American Grammy-winning Hall of Fame country musician and actor Jerry Hubbard who you know better as Jerry Reed.  The big hits include East Bound and Down from Smokey And The Bandit, and She Got the Goldmine, I Got the Shaft.  Also happy 75th birthday to blues guitar legend and Austinite Jimmie Vaughan - brother of the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan.

 

And happy birthday to Mr. Matthew Penrod right here in Boerne.

 

The Boerne ISD Parent Teacher Organizations from Champion and Boerne High noticed there was no recognition for students who went above and beyond for service in the community, and so they created the Superintendent’s Volunteer Service Award. This year marks the first time this award has been given out, and recognizes volunteer hours completed in the 2025 calendar year. In total, 31 Boerne Highschool students served 4,629 hours. From now on, the award will be the new standard, and students will be able to proudly display a new medal celebrating this achievement in this year's graduation regalia.

 

If you need another reason to visit the Outdoor Family Fair tomorrow, the bookmobile will be parked in Main Plaza with giveaways and books to check out. The van has increased accessibility to education around the city, and eliminates the barrier of having to physically visit the library. You’ll be able to sign up for library cards, tour the vehicle and maybe win a prize. The van and the event will be in Main Plaza from 10 to 2. 

 

A national discount shopping chain is making its way to North Main Street this spring. Harbor Freight, the self-appointed "America's #1 tool store," announced this week that it will open a new Boerne location inside of a shopping center in the Northside. A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows construction began in February and is slated to wrap on April 20th.

The Champion boys soccer team was in the playoffs and ready to go last night, but already knowing their assignment- they knew it would be tough. They had to face Liberty Hill, only the defending state champs, no biggie right? We are tied at 0-0 after regulation, so we head to a penalty kick shootout. Liberty Hill ended up winning 5-4 in the penalty kicks and narrowly secured the win. The Chargers are out, but a great run this season… all the hard work paid off for sure! Way to go guys! 

Youth softball players- if you wear your BYAA or travel team jersey to the Greyhound softball game tonight, you’ll get into the game for free. First pitch is at 7 as they take on Wagner. 

Men’s NCAA March Madness for college basketball- Texas schools loving it up indeed. TCU advanced with a very slim 66-64 win against Ohio St. Texas A&M took care of St. Mary’s 63-50, and Houston handily beat Idaho 78-47. Houston and A&M will face each other in round 2 Saturday. And an upset not a lot saw coming- UT Austin out of the First Four defeated BYU 79-71 and they are headed to round 2 as well. Round 1 concludes today with the game starting at 11:15. Texas Tech and Akron go to work at 11:40, and Prairie View A&M against top-seeded Florida tips off at 8:25. 

The Spurs officially claimed a spot in the playoffs with a win over the Suns, 101-100 last night.
