It’s on… let’s get it on tonight… it’s either 3rd place or 4th place for the Greyhound girls as they take the long drive down the street to Boerne Champion to battle Tivy. Now, seeding in the playoffs is on the line here… and that starts next week. 

Alright, mission accomplished for Lady Eagles Soccer- in a very-well, as-predicted competitive game against John Paul II-Schertz. Well as an incentive for winning, the district title would also be there’s… and they pulled it off. A 1-0 score was the final. 

The Spurs continue their long Rodeo Road Trip in Charlotte tonight as they will try not to get stung by the Hornets. Tip-off is at 6.

It’s Tuesday March 18th. 

President Grover Cleveland was born on this date in 1837 and was the first Democrat voted into office after the Civil War. Up until last November, he was the only President in history to have served two nonconsecutive terms - #22 and #24, and the only President to be married in the White House - he was 49…and she was 21.

This just in…here’s the latest on the Crabapple fire that is still breathing while it’s 85% contained. According to the Press Release from The City of Fredericksburg an estimated 9737 acres have been affected….According to the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Division of Emergency Management we now have some damage assessments:

9 total residences have been destroyed - 7 of those possibly occupied, 2 confirmed unoccupied.  2 residences damaged, 20 outbuildings destroyed, and 4 outbuildings damaged.

Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell said those numbers could have been much higher were it not for the efforts of the crews, and the structures were the first priorities…and accept that they could not save everything. 

Unfortunately, one fire fighter has been injured in the fight; a limb fell from a burning tree and struck the first responder. They were taken to the hospital and have already been treated and released. 

We reported yesterday that food, water, and other supply donations are not needed but what is needed is for the affected livestock of our Texas ranchers - they need hay, feed, and fencing supplies for those cattle, goats, and sheep. If you have questions or answers for that help call 830-988-6173.

One final note if you own a drone and want to fly over the burned areas there is a Temporary Flight Restriction. Hate for your drone to be taken out by an Air Tanker.

Well, it is on! Your Boerne High School Boys and your Lady Greyhounds Soccer Teams are looking forward to competing in the Bi-District Playoffs this week - the boys will face Liberty Hill at Hays High School which is in Buda just north of Kyle - after a 90 minute drive - that kick off time is at 8:00 at night…on school night! …the girls will take on Cedar Park at Dripping Springs High School on Friday at 6…that’s only a 70-minute drive.  The Boerne Boys are 12-3-1, while Liberty Hill is 6-3 with 5 ties…The Lady Greyhounds are 9-6-1 while Cedar Park is 19-2 and 1.

The red hot or purple hot Boerne Greyhound Baseball team coming off that big 16-4 win against Veterans Memorial last week, will face Smithson Valley tomorrow night at their field.

And shout out to Softball Champion Charger Bella Mamadaliyev - during spring break she didn’t go to the South Padra or South Beach …she went further south on a mission trip to Guatemala to help in the medical field.   Taking that Charger pride with her too…God bless you, Bella!

 After a big win at home on Saturday against the Pelicans without Fox or Wemby, the Spurs face the Lakers in LA with a tip off at 9:30.  This was a rescheduled game from January that was cancelled due to the California fires.

It’s Monday March 17th. 

And it’s Saint Patrick’s Day!

And while we think of an Irish guy who rid Ireland of snakes and taught the trinity with a shamrock...the true story is that he was the son of senator and deacon growing up in Britain who was kidnapped by pirates who took him to Ireland as a teenager and used him as a slave.  It was there he found God, which led to his Devine escape.  In his 20s he became a priest and felt the call from a dream to return to Ireland as a missionary.

Our neighbors in Gillespie County and the Fredericksburg Fire/EMS Department are still battling Crabapple Fire that began on Saturday. Our last update from the Texas A&M Forest Service says 9,500 acres have been affected, and it’s 55% contained. That current stretch goes from Lower Crabapple to FM 1631 which is north-east of Fredericksburg.  Currently there are no injuries reported, but numerous structures have been lost and more are threatened.  The city of Fredericksburg says food, water and other supply donations are not needed however OneStar Foundation and Rebuild Texas has set up the Crabapple Disaster Fund…and we have a direct link in the newsblog at boenreradio.com

The Boerne Star reported over the weekend that Senator Ellen Troxclair has introduced a bill to the Texas House that would ban the use of cellphones during the school day. If passed, Bill 515 would go into affect next school year. Troxclair sites the growing mental health epidemic to social media and cell phone addiction as the main reasons for her introduction of the bill. Pickleball players, it's time to hit the courts! Courts 7 & 8 at Boerne City Park have officially reopened as dedicated pickleball courts, giving you more space to enjoy the game. These eight courts will provide a dedicated pickleball space while the City works on bringing new courts online at Northside Community Park. Once those officially open to the public, Courts 7 and 8 will be resurfaced back into tennis courts.
