Headlines: Geneva Basketball/ Boerne High opens district play/State semifinals

Alright, let’s wrangle up some basketball scores from last night… The start of district competition sends us to Geneva where both the girls and the boys were playing. And both were on the good ol’ hardwood against John Paul II from Schertz. The boys get a win, 88-60, and the girls… get this, quadrupled the score and then some. They won by a very large 75-18… my gosh. 

Okay, you want a more competitive game? - Let's head over to Boerne High School where the Greyhounds cracked open district play against the Smithson Valley Rangers. It was extremely close, maybe too close for comfort. (quite literally since Comfort is only a 20 minute drive up I-10) Yeah, but anyways, Boerne ended up winning 48-47. Now Boerne is a great team already, but some of their talent comes from the football squad… the only thing is those guys are still wearing pads and helmets and are now practicing in freezing temperatures.

And… you know it's a good sign when they’re wearing them in December. That means State is getting closer, and if they beat Richmond Randle on Friday, they will be playing in Arlington next week for the state title. Geneva girls soccer had a long drive to Corpus Christi earlier to face John Paul II, and let’s just say it wasn’t a wasted trip. For the dominant week Eagle teams have been having, this continues it- Geneva wins by a large shutout 10-0. These Eagles continue to soar… is there anything these student athletes can’t do?

Alright, we’re just a day away from your Boerne Greyhounds facing their biggest challenge yet this season on the gridiron- playing Richmond Randle in the state semifinals. It was announced earlier in the week that the UTSA Roadrunners would be in a bowl game- they’re playing in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Monday the 23rd against Coastal Carolina. Both teams finished their regular seasons at an even 6-6.

Tied at 1, we head into double overtime- but the hero of the game turned out to be Adelina Vela as she hits the game winner, sets the sirens off, and says buenas noches. The Eagles take the 2-1 victory. 

We are now just 3 days away from game day… your Boerne Greyhounds football team is in the state semifinals, and Richmond Randle is the next contestant to face the Greyhounds historic run.
