Well, if you like the thrill of roller coasters, the one sporting event that could have replicated that feeling was likely Geneva vs Holy Cross softball at UTSA yesterday… two words… instant classic. Winner advances in the playoffs and wins the regional title- losers are sent packing. Through two innings Holy Cross leads 3-0, not totally running away with it yet. By the end of the third, we were knotted up at 3 with Kate Friesenhahn and Maegan Riebel hitting RBIs. By the bottom of the 6th, both teams earned some more, it's 7-6 Knights… until Kate Friesenhahn smokes one… adios amigo, Geneva is back up, 10-7. In the 7th… Holy Cross answered and had a 4-run crooked inning to take the lead 11-10. It would stay that way until the end. Geneva ends up losing what was a great game, and ultimately a heartbreaker for the hometown Boerne softball team. They were so close, but the 5 seniors on the team go out with history for the program, as well as their unmatched leadership… Congrats to the Softball team on an amazing season.
Geneva gold was also busy at the TAPPS State Championship - The girls as a team finished 4th and the boys got bronze. Anistyn Dennis got 4th place individually, Jack Walker Harden finished 3rd place overall, and Jace Hulett 10th overall.
For the second-straight year, the San Antonio Spurs have produced a rookie of the year- Stephon Castle won the award with 482 points total and 92 first-place votes in the borda voting count. He averaged 14.7 points and 4.1 assists this year for the Silver and Black. He is now the 4th Spur to win the award alongside David Robinson, Tim Duncan, and Victor Wembanyama last year. The Spurs are also the 2nd NBA team to produce back-to-back winners.. The first being the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2015 and 2016.
