Headlines: Champion sees playoffs later this week / Geneva softball wins Saturday, moves on to round 2

This is Boerne Radio Sports… happy start of the UIL Baseball playoffs week.

With that being said, let’s explain the situation with Champion Baseball. New Braunfels had one more game on Saturday for a chance to tie Champion for the District 26 championship, and the Unicorns won 1-0 beating Pieper… so the Chargers and Unicorns are District 26 co-champions. (They both finish the season with a 12-4 district record) 

With that, the top 4 teams in the district that qualified for the playoffs are Champion, New Braunfels, Smithson Valley finishing with an 11-5 record, and Pieper at 10-6, just sneaking in. 

So the Champion Chargers will get Cedar Park in the first round of the playoffs this week. Some background on Cedar Park: These Timberwolves went 11-15 this season but got 3rd place with an 8-5 record. They finished behind the tough Liberty Hill and Rouse teams in District 25. The games for the first round series are supposed to be played Thursday through Saturday, if necessary. On Monday, the teams will discuss where and at what time these games will be played - that information should become available by tomorrow. 

The Geneva softball team won the area championship in TAPPS Saturday after defeating First Baptist Christian 15-4. They move on in the playoffs and now come the regional finals… we should know the opponent and time for that one soon as well.
