We’ll start with the Charger baseball team who completed a shutout over Seguin, 7-0. That is another district win piled on.

Geneva baseball is currently on a 6-game win streak and is set to face John Paull II Schertx tonight at 5.

Geneva golf teams are headed to state!- the boys win the regionals by 6 strokes, and the girls earn 4th place but it is enough to qualify them. Total strokes for the boys was 319, and the girls, 434.

The Houston Astros fall to the Cubs in the WIndy City, 7-2. The Texas Rangers get shut out by Seattle, 4-0. Both teams are right back where they left off tonight. The Missions pick up a 1-0 win against Wichita.

Saturday 5/4

Audio: TSP, Greyhounds win

Well after rain was projected to ruin an evening of baseball in the hill country, game 2 got moved nearly 3 hours earlier and in San Antonio!- it didn’t stop the Boerne Greyhounds from beating the Kennedy Rockets at all. Greyhounds complete the sweep, in 5 innings, 10-0. Your Greyhounds are bi-district champions. 

Boerne Champion also completed a sweep against Hays in Kyle. Not a lot of inclement weather to prepare for, up the I-35 corridor. 5-3 was the final score up there, Champion as well, are the 5A bi-district champions.

Round 2 assignments are coming in the next few days as we move on to the area playoffs.

Elizabeth Leachman has won 2 gold medals at the state track meet. In the morning, she ran the 3200M and set a meet record with a time of 10:11.40. Then, later in the day, she set another state record in the 1600M run with a time of 4:41.36. She won athlete of the meet, and beyond that, has shown a lot of resilience and talent. She has done it again, folks.

The Gunslingers kickoff at 6 tonight against Frisco for Star Warz Night. San Antonio is currently 2-3 and would like to earn a record of .500. It all goes down in the Freeman Coliseum and will be streamed live on YouTube.

As heard here on Boerne Radio… The Champion Chargers hosted the Hays Hawks in game 1 of the 5A bi-district championship. Champion earned 8 runs on 8 hits, and also had 3 errors and stranded 8 runners to beat Hays 8-4, due in part to players like Aiden Smith who had a monster game. The Greyhounds went extras in San Antonio as they faced the Kennedy Rockets- Greyhounds had some hits early on but couldn’t cash in. We’re tied at 1 after 7, so guess what that means?- extra innings. With the bases loaded in the 8th, Boerne is gifted a run off a walk, and held on in the bottom of the 8th… And then good night, 2-1, Boerne takes the one game lead as now they play Kennedy at home tonight at 7.

And some special Boerne Radio Friendly Birthday’s today…born on this date in 1903 - Bing Crosby - in 1919 Pete Seeger - in 1933 James Brown plus Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons turns 90 and Austin resident Christopher Cross is 73 today…all of these artists’ music lives on…on Boerne Radio… And even tho’ she’s not known as a singer - she was loved by generations - she lived her last days in Boerne…  Born on this date in 1926 - the late great Ann B. Davis of Brady Bunch fame as Alice.

Yesterday at the Center was the Mayor Prayer Breakfast for the National Day of Prayer where over 100 gathered and broke tortillas with potatoes and beans from Bill Millers.

It was the first Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast with Mayor Frank Ritchie and the first one in Boerne since well before COVID.  Mayor Ritchie said it’s a pretty big deal that with the state of the union, anything we can do as community leaders to bring our city together is a ripple effect for our state and country.

At Noon the official National Day of Prayer event in the Main Plaza started in the rain as another 100 faithful arrived and heard proclamations and prayers from other community leaders including State Rep Ellen Troxclair.

Besides tomorrow being the very important Election Day, and besides tomorrow being May the 4 and the world famous Star Wars Night at The Richter which by the way my  wife and I will be at,  tomorrow is also Lemonade Day here in Boerne - another great reason to come downtown with a pocket full of 1 dollar bills and sample as many cups of lemonade from 75 kid entrepreneurs at their decorated stands wall to wall on the Hill Country Mile on Main Street.  A new Youth Entrepreneur of the Year will be chosen when the event ends at 2pm…booths open at 11.
