Alright, track season - getting to the final stages of what could be historic years for local programs. Charger boys track gets the job done winning the region 4 championship. That’s 3 in the past 4 years, and now they will head to state.

Elizabeth Leachman dominated (and it wasn’t even close) the 3200M at Heroes Stadium Friday. A chance to head to state, and oh yeah, set a new record. She broke that meet record with a time of 10:00.88. 

Some of the Greyhound boys are also headed to state… A Boerne High record was also broken in the 4x1 relay by Woody Goen, William Freeman, Michael Igbo, and Charlie Stahl. The team will also be heading to state in the 4x2, another race they bagged over the weekend.

Week 4 of the UFL and the Brahmas, led by Boerne High alum, Quinten Dormandy captured their 3rd win of the year… they are now 3-1.

The NBA Playoffs are underway and the Spurs are not anywhere near the court playing, but after a long season of ups and downs, injuries and triumphs, Wembanyama is a finalist for 2 individual NBA awards- Rookie and the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year. Winners will be announced soon, but he has a great chance at potentially being both.

Boerne Radio Sports - April 22, 2024

Monday 5/6

Round 2 matchups are set for the Greyhounds and the Chargers in the 2024 UIL baseball playoffs. 

The Greyhounds will be in Austin at Del Valle Thursday for game 1, will get Friday off, then play games 2 and 3 if needed on Saturday. Thursday’s game will start at 7pm.

The Chargers will host game 1 against MacArthur Thursday at Champion, then Friday and Saturday will both be at Northeast’s Sports Park. Thursday’s game will begin at 7pm. You couldn’t ask for a better matchup than two district rivals battling for bragging rights and an area championship.

Victor Wembanyama is up for 2 different NBA awards- Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year. The rookie award will be announced tonight at 6, and defensive player will be announced at 5:30 tomorrow night. Speaking of the Spurs, they’re in the NBA Draft Lottery for the 2nd-straight year. The Spurs are in the running for a top-3 pick, but only if the numbers are crunched in their favor. That will take place Sunday night.

Election Day was on Saturday and All Three Boerne City Council Seats were retained by the incumbents.

Ty Wolosin and Dr Mac finished strong - Wolosin winning by 30%, Macaluso earring 67% of the vote…but tell me your vote doesn’t count - Quinten Scott in District 3 beat his challenger Dan Weis by only 3 votes…and even more shocking was 108 voted for Scott, 105 for Weis… 213 votes total.  Respectfully folks…come on…but that’s how it works - the people have spoken.

Same with the school board - incumbent Carlin Friar wins with 60% of the vote with 2714 voting.  Dallas Pipes wins Place 2 with 68% of the vote, and in Place 3 Courtney Darter-Bruce wins with 84% of the vote.



Money Magazine and Money.com just published the top 50 places in America to Live and it makes me very proud to announce one Texas Hill Country small town made the list and it’s New Braunfels!  So congratulation New Braunfels…Yes…visit Boerne but if you’re listening outside of Texas…move to New Braunfels - so much better than Boerne.

Saturday 5/4

Audio: TSP, Greyhounds win

Well after rain was projected to ruin an evening of baseball in the hill country, game 2 got moved nearly 3 hours earlier and in San Antonio!- it didn’t stop the Boerne Greyhounds from beating the Kennedy Rockets at all. Greyhounds complete the sweep, in 5 innings, 10-0. Your Greyhounds are bi-district champions. 

Boerne Champion also completed a sweep against Hays in Kyle. Not a lot of inclement weather to prepare for, up the I-35 corridor. 5-3 was the final score up there, Champion as well, are the 5A bi-district champions.

Round 2 assignments are coming in the next few days as we move on to the area playoffs.

Elizabeth Leachman has won 2 gold medals at the state track meet. In the morning, she ran the 3200M and set a meet record with a time of 10:11.40. Then, later in the day, she set another state record in the 1600M run with a time of 4:41.36. She won athlete of the meet, and beyond that, has shown a lot of resilience and talent. She has done it again, folks.

The Gunslingers kickoff at 6 tonight against Frisco for Star Warz Night. San Antonio is currently 2-3 and would like to earn a record of .500. It all goes down in the Freeman Coliseum and will be streamed live on YouTube.
