The Boerne Police Department dedicated a permanent monument to fallen K-9 officer Chico yesterday afternoon. The dedication lined up perfectly with National Police K-9 day, which was also instated locally by Mayor Frank Ritchie. The monument was created by artist Linda Sioux Henley with assistance from Brittany Schmidt, an administrative assistant with the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Boerne residents will soon be paying more for water and sewer service.  Beginning in October, city water, sewer and reclaimed-water rates will increase by 7 percent. The city is also doubling the monthly stormwater fee from four dollars to eight dollars. For the average homeowner, the combined monthly bill is expected to rise from about 80 dollars and 59 cents to 89 dollars and 97 cents. City officials say the additional revenue will help pay for water, wastewater and drainage improvements needed as Boerne continues to grow. 

Students from Cibolo Creek Community Church made their third consecutive mission trip to Chunox Village in Belize through a partnership with Thirst Missions. The primary focus of the mission is to host a Vacation Bible School, which draws dozens of students from the area. Students also take part in service projects like cleaning up the community park, painting playground equipment, and restoring signs, as well as delivering blessing bags with essential food items to the elderly. The young missionaries also visited homes, connected with the residents and prayed with them. 

A brush fire was reported in Fredericksburg yesterday near Ranch Road 1376 and 1888-crews from Kendall County dispatched to help at approximately 12:25. A little after 1, crews were able to stop the forward movement of the fire and began mopping up hot spots and embers, eventually reopening the area at about 1:40. 

The City of Boerne Utilities clarified the slight discoloration in drinking water in the northern portion of the water system. The color is a temporary result of water treatment post the flooding in July, which brought excess debris and organic material into the water supply. The most important part is that the water has been tested and is safe to drink, and the discoloration does not indicate a health concern.
