And Lake Hills was the big winner with 5.31 inches yesterday.

Dallas Cowboys Minicamp starts today and will run through Thursday. WR George Pickens showed up for the minicamp, despite being away from the team for voluntary workouts, which reports were watching closely. Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard won’t happen until late July. 

We’re two days removed from the end of the NBA season, and already the rumors begin. It was already reported to ease everyone’s mind that De’Aaron Fox will be in San Antonio for a while and there are no plans to trade him. But Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has been in rumors that San Antonio might want to trade for. They also have money to spend in free agency, so the sky is the limit to find that missing piece to their championship-caliber team. 

Both Major League Baseball teams fell last night. Texas lost to Minnesota 4-2, and Houston lost to Detroit 9-3. 

UT baseball stays alive and advances to today, defeating Alabama yesterday 14-2. They must win tonight against Georgia to stay in it, and if they do, they punch their ticket to the round of 4. So far, the North Carolina Tar Heels are the only ones to advance.

And born on this date in 1937... - Grammy winning Country music hall of famer Waylon Arnold Jennings.  He was supposed to be on the plane that crashed and killed Buddy Holly in what became known as the day the music died.  He gave his seat to J.P. The Big Bopper Richardson who had the flu and didn’t want to ride on the cold bus.  Waylon Jennings' first band as a teenager was called The Texas Longhorns.

Also born on this date is Brett D’Spain with D’Spain’s Termite & Pest Services and DD Exotics, Happy Birthday to Tres Clemons and Tim Edwards at the UPS Store in Leon Springs.

You can expect delays on 46 this week due to work crews reducing the road to one lane as they begin to install rumble strips. TxDOT area engineer Robert Madrigal said work will begin on the Boerne end of the highway, somewhere near the Spencer Ranch subdivision intersection. The crew will operate in a 2-mile-long work area, and flagmen will halt traffic and a pilot car will guide cars through the area. The work is expected to be completed by Thursday, beginning at 8:30 each day.  Do expect delays. 

 

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of the HIll Country, including Kendall County all the way through tomorrow evening. Very humid tropical air and a stalling front will result in heavy rain, sometimes exceeding 2 to 3 inches per hour at a time. While the rain might be helpful, the risk for flash-flooding could be life-threatening so turn around, don't drown. 

 

Last Thursday, one of the Comfort Fire Department’s trucks was struck on I-10 while crews were working on an accident. No first responders or victims of the original accident were harmed, but the driver of the vehicle was injured and transported to receive medical care. Anytime you come up to an emergency vehicle, remember it’s Texas law to reduce your speed 20 miles per hour below the speed limit and slide over as much as you safely can.

If you haven’t heard by now, the New York Knicks are NBA Champions, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 to clinch it Saturday night in the Alamo City. I know a lot of blame is being thrown around and talk about what the Spurs could have done better- but the bottom line is this. The Spurs are in a very good position to replicate this season but fill those gaps to produce a championship next year. We now look ahead to the NBA Draft on June 23 where the Spurs have pick number 20 in the first round, and then free agency. Wemby is also expected to sign a rookie extension come July… I’ll explain more about that later. But until then, we’ll say goodbye to the Spurs for now as they have made everyone in South Texas basketball fans once again. 

Now Boerne High graduate Jackson Grimes played in the THSBCA All Star Game on Sunday. He will now head to UTSA in the fall to join a great program down the road. Congrats to Grimes.

UT baseball lost to Georgia Saturday, and now face elimination today as they have to play Alabama at 1pm from Omaha. Texas needs to win if they want to continue playing in the College Baseball World Series.
