Boerne Radio - News, October 14th, 2024

View descriptionShare

It’s Monday October 14th.
It was on this date in 1912 that President Theodore Roosevelt was making his bid for reelection in Milwaukee when he was shot by John Schrank with a 38 Colt Revolver at close range. The assailant believed William McKinley had come to him in a dream and told him to avenge his death. Roosevelt survived the attempt on his life because the bullet went through a folded copy of his stump speech, his glasses case, and his heavy winter coat.  Despite the blood seeping through his shirt, he delivered a 90 minute speech, and uttered the iconic phrase, “it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose”.
Today’s news is sponsored by the Hill Country Animal League and Barktoberfest - this Saturday in Main Plaza…
I’m Baron Wiley.
Suzanne Clark Simpson, the missing Olmos Park resident who disappeared last Sunday, is still being searched for within the San Antonio area. Since her disappearance, her husband, 53 year old Brad Simpson, has been placed under arrest by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being charged with assault causing bodily injury-family violence and unlawful restraint. The arrest, however, has not been revealed to connect with the disappearance of his wife.  He’s now in the Bexar County Jail on bonds totaling $2 million.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and Boerne Police Department are partnering with the City Of Fair Oaks Ranch PD to collect items for Floridians impacted by the recent hurricanes. They will be collecting items until the 2nd of November. Some of the much needed items are nonperishable foods, hygiene products, baby supplies, first aid kits and more. You can see a full list on the Boerne Police Department Facebook page.
Happy Columbus Day…uh…I mean Indigenous Peoples Day…either way…no school today, the chamber is closed today and back at it tomorrow with a ribbon cutting for the Hill Country Animal League who will also be hosting their 4th annual Barktoberfest on Saturday where Shan Wiley and myself will be the emcees in Main Plaza.
And a reminder on this 2nd full week of October, it’s Bulky Item and Brush collection week, so if you have items that do not fit in your trashcan, pick-up will take place on your normal trash day, with items expected at the curb by 7am.
Boerne Radio News is delivered to you by The Boerne Star… and The Hill Country Animal League - a non-profit that offers low cost spaying and neutering as this Saturday is Barktoberfest.  Support them there with the fun planned in Main Plaza, shop at their Thrift store at next to the Sonic on Bandera Road, or give your best gift at HCALTX.org
