Boerne Radio News - Monday, May 25, 2026

View descriptionShare

It’s Monday, May 25th.

And it was on this date in 1961 - 65 years ago today - that President John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session of Congress his specific goals for America...

(audio clip)

That goal was realized on July 20, 1969, when Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong stepped off the Lunar Module's ladder and onto the Moon's surface.

And happy birthday to some great Boerne Radio friends…Katie Glockley over at Wild Birds Unlimited, Susan Pick with Pick Insurance, and Faron Hierholzer - a great Boerne Greyhound Grad who keeps our US Mail Trucks running here in Boerne.

I’m Baron Wiley.

And it’s Memorial Day in America - the official start of the summer season…Boerne Lake is open today after the tragic news from yesterday when an 80-year-old man drowned.  The Boerne Fire Department Dispatch received the initial 911 call just after 2:30. Members of the Boerne Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Boerne Police Department and Kendall County EMS all responded to the scene. Nearby people visiting the lake attempted to help the man but were unsuccessful.   Boerne Firefighters recovered the victim’s body just before 6:30pm where the water was 20 feet deep.

The Boerne Star reported this weekend that the County Commissioners believe they are running out of room in the courthouse, although there is no quick fix. Judge Kirsten B. Cohoon of the 451st and Judge Katherine McDaniel of the 498th district courts told county commissioners that a lack of space and crowded conditions are jeopardizing the judicial space, and eventually they will be less effective and efficient. The process of building a new building would take at least 5 years, meaning there needs to be a temporary solution. Cohoon has asked for a space analysis to try to get the ball rolling.

And tomorrow is finally Election Day…if you failed to early vote, Kendall County makes it incredibly easy for you to vote at any polling places and that include City Hall, Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department, Waring Fire House, Burdick Community Center, Kendall County Fair Grounds, Kendalia Community Center, Sisterdale Community Center, and at great churches like 1910, Comfort Baptist Church, Boerne Bible Church, and First Baptist Church on School Street in Boerne.  Voting times are from 7 to 7.

This special runs through Friday Morning.   Limit one free breakfast per paying table.

The Dienger is the same place it’s been since 1884…at the corner of Main and West Blanco.  The Dienger Trading Company.
