And today is VE Day - the 80th anniversary of Victory In Europe Day after World War II. Also born on this date in 1884 was Harry S. Truman…the 33rd President of the United States. Also born on this date Ricky Nelson in 1940, Alex Van Halen turns 72, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire is 74, and Toni Tennille turns 85.
So we know a 2nd Starbucks is coming to Boerne, but the coffee chain has to comply to with a few conditions according to the front page of the Boerne Star. The Planning and Zoning Commission voted 6 to 0 in their meeting on Monday to approve a special use permit for LJA Engineering to allow a drive thru at the new location on Herff Road. Some of the hoops include a 3rd party traffic study on the impact of an already busy Herff Road, a landscaping plan, and establishing directional signage to help with the flow. Planning and Zoning Chair Tim Bannwolf said regarding the drive thru, if we get cars stacking on Herff, then we’ve done the community a disservice.”
Starting today, Fair Oaks Ranch has placed stop signs at the intersection of Battle Intense, High Echelon and Hansel, effectively becoming a 4 way stop. While everyone is getting used to the change, there should be orange flags to help alert drivers, as well as a mobile sign that will give advance notice until May 15th.
Programming alert - at 4:15 today we’ll give our airwaves to Texas Sports Productions to give us the play by play for the Champion Chargers taking on The MacArthur Brahams in round two of the baseball playoffs in game 1 - game 2 will be tomorrow at 4:15 and game 3 if needed on Saturday - Go Chargers!
Hill Country Family Services received a generous grant from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation recently and needs your help to get the most bang for their buck. The grant is a matching grant- every dollar raised will be matched by the foundation up to $100,000. As of yesterday, evening they had raised over $48,000. You can donate to them and double your impact by visiting hcfstx.org.
And tonight is the second Thursday of the month, so the Boerne Bookshop is hosting the Hill Country Poets Open Mic night. The event will be from 6 to 8 so don’t be late, the Boerne Bookshop is in the Richter building - should be thrilling and fulfilling.
