It’s Monday, May the 5th.
Or as they say on the South Side of Boerne, Cinco De Mayo. This day celebrates the defeat of a much bigger French Army by the Mexican troops in 1862. The Mexican army of only 4,000 defeated the 8,000 person French army, providing a morale boost to the Mexican population. However, only a year later, the French army came back with 30,000 troops and instated Emporer Maximillion the First as ruler of the country. After the American Civil war ended, the U.S. was able to expel the French and provide independence to Mexico.
