Headlines:  Comfort Recovers From Watermain Break / Volunteer To Place Flags With VFW Post 688 on Friday For Memorial Day / Fundraiser for Welfare’s Historic 1878 Schoolhouse / Hill Country Family Services Is The Boerne Radio Non-Profit of the Month!

It’s Thursday May 22nd

And on this date in 2005 was the passing of one of the most infamous voice actors of all time, Thurl Ravenscroft. You know him as the voice of Tony the Tiger, and singing “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” in the 1966 classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas. But did you know during World War II he was a navigator to the US Air Transport Command flying courier missions across the Atlantic for 5 years - and some of his passengers included Winston Churchill and Bob Hope.  And we think that’s GREAT!

Well this is painful, have you been following the story in Comfort and the watermain break from last Sunday?  So far the numbers we have is that 250,000 gallons of water were lost.  That’s approximately 70% of a normal day in Comfort.  So much water pressure was lost that Comfort ISD High School closed the school at 10:30 on Monday but they were back on Tuesday. A mechanical joint failed on a NEW water line…they isolated the problem, and problem solved but it’ll still take days to recover.

Another reminder that Memorial Day is coming up on Monday the 26th and the VFW Post 688 is looking for volunteers to help place American Flags at Veterans grave sites in the Boerne Cemetery.  If that’s you, contact Comrade David Spoor with the VFW when you call 210-862-0426.  The placement of the flags Ceremony will be tomorrow  at 5pm.  The official Memorial Day Ceremony will happen on that Monday morning at 11…and then at 5pm the flags will be collected from the graves.  All the events will meet at the Cemetery Flagpole on School Street and all are welcome.

Well as we say on Boerne Radio we love our neighbors in Bergheim, Comfort and Fair Oaks Ranch but right now we want to give some love to our neighbors in Welfare and Waring… The Historic Welfare Schoolhouse built in 1878 - is in desperate need of a facelift.  So on Saturday May 31st they are hosting a car show, live music, Grilled Brats and Hot Dogs thanks to Opa’s Smoked Meats, Sweet Memories Bakery is making the cake - it’s just a good old fashion fundraiser - they need paint, they need tools, they need hands to maintain this official Texas Historic Landmark…you get to step inside this historic one room one teacher schoolhouse that was actually the school all the way up to 1952 before those kids got transferred to  Comfort.  To get there just head to Welfare like you’re going to Po Po Family Restaurant and just go around the bend…and if you want to help just email welfareschoolhouse@gmail.com
