And born on this date in 1908 - the star of It’s A Wonderful Life, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and Harvey - American Oscar Winner Jimmy Stewart.  James Stewart was one of the first major celebrities to join the US Armed Forces after the outbreak of World War II.  He flew combat missions over Germany and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service.

Well sad news…according to a press release from the City of Boerne, the Boerne Fire Department reported a man drowned in Boerne Lake while he was fishing with friends on Saturday.  The Water Rescue Team with the BFD recovered his body yesterday morning. Officials report that he had been complaining of heat during the day and got in the water to cool off but was not aware of the steep drop off within the lake. He called for help, but the other guests were unable to swim and called 911.  Alcohol was not a factor, and his identity has not been made public until his next of kin is contacted as the man is from the Leon Springs area.

The traveling Veterans Memorial is still making its way around Boerne, most recently making a stop at Fabra Elementary.   The memorial will continue to move around the city until Memorial Day and is currently on display on the Cibolo Creek Trail. 

The Boerne Chamber of Commerce has a busy week coming up, starting with a Ribbon Cutting for The Ironwood Barn at Von Erich Ranch tomorrow at 11:30 out on FM 473. After the ribbon cutting, Kevin Von Erich and his family invite you to stay for their open house that includes mini donkeys and cows, a fashion show and special event vendors. On Wednesday, there will be a ribbon cutting for Sunbelt Rentals on I-10 at 1:30. And Thursday has 3 ribbon cuttings!  Complete Balance PT at 11:30, Optometrist Innovista Eye in Fair Oaks, and then the SA Dominion RE/MAX Elite office at 3:30.
