It’s Friday May 16th. 

And on this date in 1929, the first Academy Awards are hosted in Hollywood and the Oscar for Best Film goes to Wings - which starred Clara Bow and a young Gary Cooper.  It was a World War 1 story that remains the only silent film to win best picture.  The other interesting thing is that the film was shot on location at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas.

The City of Boerne is currently conducting a public access survey. This year marks the fourth in the ADA Transition Plan, and wants to know if you’ve seen an improvement so far and what still needs to be done. The survey is designed to help Officials locate areas of most significant concern to the public and help provide better access throughout our community. You have until June 15th to complete it, and can find a link in our news blog at boerneradio.com.

Since 2010, the City of Boerne has planted almost 2,000 trees and even gave trees away back in November…and that’s why last week the City of Boerne was once again recognized as a Tree City USA Community, marking its 15th consecutive year. The Arbor Day Foundation honored the Boerne Parks and Rec department for their commitment to effective urban forest management.  To qualify for Tree City USA status a city must maintaining a tree board, check - have a tree care ordinance, check - spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry - check - and host an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Check-check.  For the record there are over 35,000 cities and towns in our country…3,600 have earned this status putting Boerne in the 10% bracket in the county…just saying.

Weather wise - Looks like upper sixties in the morning and lower 90’s in the midday is the forecast for the next couple of weeks.
