Boerne Radio News - March 1, 2024

View descriptionShare

It’s Friday March 1st.

It was on this date in 1836 that Thirty-two men from Gonzales joined the woefully unmanned forces at the Alamo after the pleas for reinforcements came from William Barret Travis.

They were the only ones who answered the famous Travis letter and are today known as the “Immortal 32”.

I’m Baron Wiley.

Don’t forget that Champion and Boerne High School have early release this afternoon in order to support the Boerne Lady Greyhounds at the Alamodome. Playing in the State Semifinals against New Braunfels Canyon. Pregame show on Boerne Radio at 2:40 and tip off will be at 3…again LIVE on Boerne Radio.

Six incredibly talented BISD high school students qualified for and competed in the 2024 UIL Young Filmmakers State contest on Wednesday. To be a finalist meant that you had to stand out amongst 700 other films from across the state, as only the top 6 from 4 different categories advanced to the Finals.

“Soul Bound”, by Freya Stromsness, earned a state silver medal, while “Distress Call” by Devin Jensen, Chris Harris, and Tanner Charlton, earned a state bronze medal in the Traditional Animation category.

Champion filmmaker Emma Barrazza was crowned State Champion for her film “Lost and Found” in the Traditional Animation Category. We have a link to her film in our news blog at boerneradio.com - https://vimeo.com/901538436

At the last minute, her powerful animated short film was also shown at the State of the Schools hosted by the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce in the Cana Ballroom yesterday, and Superintendent Dr. Kristen Craft asked her to speak to her inspiration after losing many contests in the past.

Emma:

By the way, Dr. Craft also knocked it out of the park with her experiences so far since she started in January, she honored those before her, and shared exciting things to come.

Audio:  Dr. Craft

She encouraged the crowd of about 300 to imagine the opportunities of knowing Spanish when it comes to business, law enforcement, and Health Science and the lives touched.
