It’s Friday June 6th.
And 81 years ago today was the commencement of Operation Overlord better known as D-Day - the Allied invasion of Nazi controlled Normandy, France. It was the largest seaborne invasion in history. By the end of the day, 150,000 Allied troops successfully secured the beaches and began pushing inland. It was the beginning of the end of World War II as Paris was liberated in August, and within a year the war in Europe would be over.
Uh-oh…a quick headline…a fox and skunk in Fair Oaks Ranch have both tested positive for rabies. Hide your kids, hide your wife, check the yard before letting your pets out, make sure they have their rabies shot, and if you see a suspected rabid animal report it to City Animal Services at 830-249-8645.
Boerne ISD is one of only 18 districts in the entire state to be named a model UIL Texas Way district. In 2024, the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, the Coaches association and 2Words Character Development came together to create the “Texas Way Initiative”, which aimed to enhance the experience of athletes at competitive levels. Boerne ISD took the initiative seriously, and as a result, is a model district to everyone across the state.
Happy 1 year anniversary to our partners at Wild Birds Unlimited of Boerne they are hosting a huge sale starting today and lasting to Sunday…but the huge party is Saturday…they will have a live raptor demonstration, so you’ll see eagles, owls, hawks, and other cool birds up close. Tacos VIP is serving tacos, Kelani Frozen Yogurt will be there too, door prizes, and take 20% off one item in the store so go big - exclusions apply - but congratulations to Wild Birds Unlimited of Boerne on North Main next to 28 Songs.
And also congrats to Lillian Oler and Paula Hayward, they are back with another month-long pop-up Tiki Bar called Bettina’s Sailing Club between Bear Moon and Hamby’s on Main Street.
Boerne Radio News is delivered to you by the Boerne Star…and our Boerne Radio campaign to match a new $5000 gift to Hill Country Family Services…with a special challenge from the Knights of Columbus #10940 - earlier this week they donated $500, and then yesterday The Knights of Columbus #10690 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton in Leon Springs as well as the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly at St. Peter’s - both down for $500…so Greg Gonyer from St. Peter’s is putting out his own challenge for all the faith friendly folks to match their $500 gift as Hill County Family Services help the least of these, the ones facing a crisis today - with professional counselors, with resources, with compassion, and follow up…usually when the fire truck or police drive away after the crisis happens, Hill Country Family Services serves…they are worthy of your support.
Boerne Radio is asking you…the Knight of Columbus are asking you - what can you do? $50 bucks? $500? Or $5000 like Texas Heritage Bank.
