It’s Wednesday June 4th.
And on this day in American history the Battle of Midway begins in 1942. It would be Japan’s first major defeat of the war. All four of Japan’s large aircraft carriers and a heavy cruiser were sunk, while the US lost only the USS Yorktown and a destroyer. This day is considered a major turning point in the war.
The 89th Legislative Session in the Texas House has come to an end, and State Rep Ellen Troxclair celebrated many wins in many categories. Some highlights include huge increases in homestead exemptions to $140,000 up from 100, and for seniors and Texans with Disabilities it went from $110K to $200,000. For schools, the largest pay raise for teachers in Texas History is coming, with an 8.5 billion dollar increase in funding our public school. Gov Abbott pledged on X he would sign the Women’s Bill of Rights which simply defines “man” and “woman” in our State Statute.
GVTC and their foundation are once again reinvesting into the community by awarding almost $150,000 in scholarships. The top earners included Rylee Wunderlich from Canyon Lake High School-who was given $25,000-Ethan Christianson from Boerne High who earned $15,000, and Gavin Fischer from Davenport High. These recipients exemplify the values of leadership, service, and innovation that define our communities.
The Das Festival on Father’s Day weekend is less than two weeks away, and they are looking for volunteers. They need help with the parade, the Dachshund races, vendor support, family activity supervision, and sign up to just put me where you need me…including setting up and tearing down…learn more at dasfestival.org.
