It’s Monday June 2nd.
And the first First Lady was born on this day in 1731 - Martha Washington is the only actual woman to appear on a US banknote, appearing on the 1891 one dollar silver certificate. Now if you want to be smart about it, the very first lady went by the name Eve.
And another first-lady-related event happened on this date in 1886 - U.S. President Grover Cleveland marries Frances Folsom in the White House. Cleveland was 49 years old...and Frances was the youngest first lady in American history as Miss Folsom was… 21 years old. Hello Cleveland!
If you missed the weekend edition of the Boerne Star, why’d you do that? But here are some of the headlines - Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries is expanding their mission through the development of their “Vision Center”, an 8000 square-foot building that will accommodate up to 300 guests with a full kitchen, and will be used for expanding at-risk youth programming, poverty alleviation, workshops, leadership and continuing education.
The Star also reported that a bronze plaque of the famous Travis Letter is coming to the Kendall County Courthouse hopefully by September. Judge Shane Stolarczyk is personally donating the funds needed to cast the plaque.
And in the crime blotter on May 23rd at 6:55am the Boerne Police received a call about a two dogs had be frequenting his backyard in the 200 block of Esser, on the 25th a duck was reported in the 100 block of Herff Road and was waddling in circles, and the Sheriff’s Department took a call from the 100 block of Woodland Ranch Road about a group of sheep were eating their yard.
