Headlines:  Federal Holiday Means City Offices, Post Office, Banks Closed /  Fire Station #2 Update / F.O.R. Has 14 Board-Committee Positions Open / Parks and Rec Month Declared In Boerne / Watch Fireworks from Living Hope or St. Peters

It’s Thursday July 3rd.

And on the eve of the day we celebrate the birthday date of our country, there were a few iconic deaths that occurred on July 3rd including Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones in 1969, Jim Morrison in 1971, and a personal hero of mine passed away on this date in 2012 who played the part of Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show.

And with the Federal holiday all government offices will be closed including the post office, banks…and the owners of Bella Sera Italian Restaurant want you to know they are open today, closed tomorrow to honor America, and back open on Saturday.

Fire Station No. 2 is well underway-here are some updates from the city on our expanding emergency services. Currently in the advanced planning stages, the new fire station is being designed around three key guiding principles: future-proofing, functionality, and culture. The new 21 million dollar facility will house a full fire squad, a community meeting room, library services and a museum room. Construction plans are expected to be completed by the end of the month, and groundbreaking will begin later this fall.

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is currently seeking applications for 14 upcoming boards, commissions and committees positions.  The terms begin October 1st, but you must apply by August 1st. Some of the openings include Capital Improvement Advisory Committee, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Transportation Safety.

As July is National Park and Recreation Month, Mayor Frank Richie made his own proclamation honoring our Boerne Parks and Rec.  This is what they are doing just this month…the Fireworks show tomorrow night, Boerne Concert Band on Sunday, Family Tie Dye Days 3 days next week, Ice Cream Social and Family Night at the City Pool next Friday, Kidz Powerwheels Drag Race at City Hall next Saturday…plus the Abendkonzerts, Movie in the Pool, and the Chalk Walk.

And wherever you watch the fireworks download the free Boerne Radio App as we’ll be playing Patriotic Music all night long - and another good place to watch the city show is from Living Hope Church - they’ll have bounce houses, shaved ice, popcorns and a great view…and also at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church has the Boerne Village Band, free hot dogs, drinks, and ice cream cups…thanks to the Knights of Columbus Assembly 3417 - good guys…just bring a chair.
