Headlines: Cold front next week/ Apply for City Council! /Wildfire Benefit Concert

It’s Wednesday January 15th.

It was on this date in 1967 that the Green Bay Packers faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs for the first ever Superbowl; although it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship back in the day. It was the only Superbowl televised by two television networks, NBC and CBS, and the halftime show featured the marching bands from the University of Arizona and Grambling College, trumpeter Al Hirt, the Ana-Hi-Steppers, 300 pigeons and 10,000 balloons. In the end, the Packers beat the Chiefs 35 to 10, and here we are in 2025 - when this Saturday the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Houston Texans this Saturday at 3:30 for the NFL Division Round.  The Chiefs are picked to win by 8…but for the record Houston wasn’t picked to win against the Chargers last weekend.

Hey Fair Oaks Folks! If you are interested in running for City Council, today is the first day to apply for a place on the May 3rd general election ballot. The current open positions are Council Member places 3,4 and 5, and you have until February 14th at 5 pm to fill out your application.

As another cold front is on the radar for next week, it is important to have all the winter necessities to stay warm. Hill Country Family Services has set up another free coat station in the lobby of the Patrick Heath Library, which is there for anyone who needs it. We will keep you updated on warming stations and any other opportunities in the coming days.

And in music news, some of Boerne Radio’s greatest artists are putting together a Wildfire Benefit Concert for our friends and neighbors in Southern California. Officially dubbed Ringo and Friends at the Ryman, the concert will feature Mr. Richard Starsky himself, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Billy Strings, Brenda Lee and more all in support of his new Country album produced by T Bone Burnett - The two-night benefit began last night and will finish tonight, but will be taped and shown on CBS at a later time.
