It’s Friday October 24th.

The first U.S. Transcontinental Telegraph message was sent on this date in 1861, marking the end of the Pony Express just two days later. The first message was sent almost instantly between San Francisco and Washington D.C. from California’s Chief Justice Stephen J. Field to Abraham Lincoln. In the message, he congratulated Lincoln on the completion of the project, which had taken over a year and 27,500 poles, and pledged California’s loyalty to the Union during the Civil War.

The State of the City hosted by Your Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Liberty Capital Bank and Texas Heritage Bank happened yesterday at the Bevy Hotel.  Leading the conversation was City Manager Ben Thatcher, Mayor Frank Ritchie, and Mayor Pro Tem Ty Wolosin….and the state of the union is good.  From awards, and grants, road improvements and build out of parks…

In fact Mayor Ritchie pointed out we have the best Cemetery in the State as it’s the only publicly funded cemetery in the county…they are leveling and repairing headstones as we speak…Here’s Mayor Frank Ritchie:

Another part of the State the City was the big reveal of the new Book Mobile for the Patrick Heath Public Library… designed to bring library services to those who can’t access the main campus. The van, which was delivered last week, features built-in bookshelves, a mobile cart, a TV monitor for projection, and a large retractable awning. The Library is seeing record attendance each year and hopes to expand services as routes are developed. The mobile should begin its regular schedule by January.

Today is the last day to submit your application for ballot by mail to the Early Voting Clerk in Kendall County. Applications must be received by close of business today, so if you haven’t already mailed them in, you might want to deliver them in person. The address to deliver the application 221 Fawn Valley Drive, Suite 100 right here in Boerne.

Programming note:  The Chargers face Victoria East tonight in Boerne ISD Stadium…we’ll carry that game right here on Boerne Radio!
