It’s Friday May 8th. 

 

And today is VE Day - Victory In Europe Day, celebrating Germany’s unconditional surrender the previous day…recognized by the British and Americans.  Also born on this date in 1884 was Harry S. Truman…the 33rd President of the United States.  Also born on this date Ricky Nelson in 1940, Alex Van Halen turns 73, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire is 75, and Toni Tennille turns 86.

And some Boerne Birthdays include Tina Fisher, Angela Jeffries,  Mr. Greg Lewis Missionary with Go and Tell Ministries, Mr. Matt Jackson, and Mr Electric owner Lara Bruhn.

 

Congratulations to St. John Lutheran School.  They are the only school in Kendall County to have a chartered 4-H Club.  Here’s Tiffany Jureski.

And they are also the only school in Kendall County to be a 4-H Healthy School.

 So for all that they are getting 2 special awards on May 18th by 4H Leaders.

 

Yesterday, City Leaders, business owners, first responders and neighbors gathered together for the National Day of Prayer in Main Plaza.   Somebody prayed for rain and it rained.  We’ll take it.

 

The Boerne Star reported that two graduating Crestmont Christian Preparatory School seniors, Daniel Sparkman and Sam Schoenfeld, have committed to universities where they will continue on a trajectory toward ministerial service. Sparkman will attend Dallas Baptist University and study Biblical Studies and Christian ministry, where he hopes to continue sharing the Gospel and help the homeless community. Schoenfeld will be making his way to Highlands College in Birmingham, Alabama to pursue a degree in Worship. 

 

The Farmer’s Market at Herff Farm happens every Saturday, but this week they have some special events you might want to partake in. A new wildlife research program is happening tomorrow from 9 to 11 called the Family Herp Walk and Talk. Herp is short for Herpetology.  The event will give an intro to snakes, their biology and the microchipping process. Also happening on the farm-Storytime in the Herff House at 10:30 and a Nature Makers class in the Teaching Garden starting at 11:30.

And by the Cibolo Center for Conservation - as Saturday May 16th is their Spring Renewal Volunteer Workday  8am-3pm

This is a focused effort to restore and improve key areas surrounding the Cibolo Nature Center. Volunteers can sign up for a variety of projects that address erosion, aging infrastructure, habitat restoration, and campus appearance. They are also looking for skilled hands! Electricians, carpenters, and landscape architects are invited to help lead projects.)
