Headlines: Thrive Early Learning Academy closes down abruptly/Karen Hogan charged with three felonies/Survey for improvements on transportation
It’s Wednesday February 5th.
And it’s National Weatherperson’s Day...honoring the birthday of John Jeffries, born on this day in 1744. Dr. Jeffries, a scientist, and a surgeon, is considered to be one of America’s first weather observers. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816. But he’s no Jacques F. DuBose.
I’m Baron Wiley.
The Boerne Star broke the news The Thrive Early Learning Academy on Sisterdale Road closed abruptly on Monday leaving parents having to scramble for new nannies, daycares, and family to watch their kids. Owner Jeff Stokes sent a letter to the parents with the announcement of the decision to close citing staffing issues. The Thrive’s staff found out they were unemployed from upset parents. Stokes says that while they are vetting offers to buy Thrive, he will refund unused tuition and offer severances to those employees. You can read the full story in the Boerne Star.
The Star also has the details on another story of San Antonio attorney Karen Hogan who is charged with three felony counts for alleged mishandling of funds in two accounts set up for the six surviving children of Jason and Emily Evans from that 2021 murder-suicide. Karen Hogan is charged with stealing nearly $540,000 set aside for those kids, and she remains in the Kendall County Jail.
