Ballot filings are now closed and with that, Mayor Tim Handren has withdrawn his entry for reelection.  Candidates for Mayor are now City Council Woman Nina Woolard, and Boerne BusinessMan Frank Ritchie.  In District 2 for City Council Nina Woolard withdrew so she could run for mayor - your choices are Joe Bateman and Sharon D. Wright.  In District 4 Bryce Boddie is running unopposed.   Election day is May 6th. 

With all the down trees and brush from the ice storm the Kendall County Brush Site says your free mulch is ready for the taking…for FREE!  With the details here’s Kendall County Commissioner of Precinct 2 Andra Wisian on how to get it.

There will be pediatricians, dentists, family and newborn photographers, ultrasound boutiques, summer camps, schools and more. Headlines: Brady Chandler places, sets record in pole vault / Spurs on track for playoffs, defeat Houston / UT Women’s Basketball headed to March Madness

We start with Geneva track and field and a gifted athlete whose name we’ve mentioned quite a bit in the past few weeks- Brady Chandler. He was at Texas A&M for the Bluebonnet Invitational over the weekend among 39 other pole vault jumpers from around the state. He goes away with a bronze medal in the competition- and also claims a new personal and Geneva record with a pole vault of 15 '7". Incredible accomplishment for this young man. 

While on the subject of accomplishments- the time to be a fan of the San Antonio Spurs is now. The Spurs still sit at 2nd in the Western Conference, and have clinched a playoff berth this past week. They have not made the main field of the playoffs since 2019. What’s also interesting, and if you like numbers and facts, this is for you… the NBC telecast of the game against Houston suggested per season trends all time, that teams who win 40 games before losing 20, have the best odds of winning the Finals. San Antonio is 47-17 at the moment, so they have surpassed that point insurmountably. They are competing with two other teams in similar boats- Detroit and OKC. The Spurs beat Houston 145-120 with a game against Boston on deck tomorrow night at 7. 

And it’s March… cue up “One Shining Moment” as we get set for the college tournaments. Selection Sunday is next week, and conference championships have either already happened or are happening this week. UT Women’s basketball claimed the SEC title against South Carolina 78-61 on Sunday and will have the automatic bid into the tournament.

And it was on this date in 1964 that the first Ford Mustang rolled out.  The base price was 2,368 dollars.  Ford sold 417 thousand cars in its first year.   And right now, Bird Imports here in Boerne has a Silver 1971 Ford Mustang Coupe with Black Interior for just $79,000.

Miss Constance, the beloved children’s librarian who has been at Patrick Heath Public Library more than 20 years, is set to retire. She first began as a youth services assistant, but quickly became a staple in the kids’ department with her weekly story time. The library will be hosting an open house for her on April 13th from 9 to 11 to wish her well, but you’ll still be able to hear her read children's stories every Saturday morning at 7:45 with Classics with Miss Contance here on Boerne Radio.

The Boerne Middle School North Choir had an incredible showing at UIL this past week. The two sections of the Non-Varsity Treble Choir scored good for sight-reading, with section B scoring excellent in their concert and Section A scoring good. The Non-Varsity Treble-Bass choir scored superior in their concert and excellent in sight-reading. Way to go hounds! 

It is the 2nd week of the month so that means it’s Bulky Item and brush collection week - your trash day is the day to put out the big stuff too big for the can.  If its brush, make sure it’s chopped and tied up.
