Headlines: Lincoln's Birthday / Annexation of Portion of Cascade Cavern Road on Council Table / Northup Park To Get New Lights / New Restaurants Coming To Boerne / Valentines Day Contest at boerneradio.com

It’s Wednesday, February 12th.

And born on this date in 1809 was President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. He was born in Kentucky, making him the first Commander in Chief born outside of the original 13 colonies. As a young man who wrestled he eventually was entered into the Wrestling Hall of Fame.  He grew to be 6’4”, and on the same day he was assassinated, he signed the bill that created the Secret Service.

I’m Baron Wiley.

Here are some of the highlights from last night's City Council Meeting. Council looked over the possible annexation of a portion of Cascade Caverns road, but it was not clear if the entirety of the property was publicly owned by the county. They plan to investigate if there is any privately owned property a part of the annexation plan and will review it again next meeting. City Financial Director Sarah Buckaloo reported on how the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year is going, and was happy to report that all revenue is on track and sales tax is meeting budget. Permit revenue is up from last year, and hotel tax is also in line with predictions.

The director of the Boerne Parks and Rec department, Lizette Jimenez, spoke on lighting upgrades to Northrup Park Adult Softball Field and the City Park Soccer Field, which will cost a little under $800,000. The council approved the item, and construction will begin in about 2 months. On top of that, the council approved the name of the newly renovated playground at Boerne City Park, calling it “Ammie’s Playground”. Ammie was a young girl with developmental issues, and doctors expected her to only live a few months. However, she defied the odds and made it to the age of 3, inspiring her family to advocate for an inclusive park where everyone can belong.

Congratulations to Officer Christopher Dingman, who just graduated with his Master of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration. That’s my guy!

And another one of my guys is Mr. Glen Boehm of The Boehm Commercial Group with his finger on the pulse of business activity in Boerne…here’s Glen
